Clamping Voltages of Entrance Protection

Long time lurker. First time poster. I usually get my answers by searching the existing posts, but I don't see anything that specifically meets my needs.

I am currently wiring a new building for my company with 3 miles of CAT6 for a voice and data network. I have my stuff together for the primary building, but I am now going to connect that network to another building that is 100' across the parking lot. I am having some conduit plowed into the ground and was planning on just pulling a few runs of CAT6 through it. I have been reading about the necessary entrance protection and I am trying to find a resource that tells me the voltages of the fuses I should use. I am going to have POTS lines and and an ethernet connection.

The information that I have read says that 75v clamping is the right amount for the ethernet connection, but I can't seem to see what I need for the POTS line. The other options are 30v, 240v and 300v.

Anyone have an insight? How about a reference for the voltages and what they are usually protecting?

IF you buy entrance protection for the specific purpose (Cat5/5e/6/6a) for data, and anything copper for analog voice (though keeping it all Cat rated makes it a bit more versatile) the they will have the proper ratings for the task and meet NEC codes.

Something to watch for is that Data Entrance Protection is generally not acceptable entrance protection for voice analog from a safety prospective (it's OK to blow up hardware with static, crispy people cause more of an issue).

I'm OK with your pulling copper, it can be used for many things, but the first question that came to my mind is WHY NOT FIBER? at least for the data. If you aren't planning on it, change your plans; not pulling fiber is just plain ignorant (IMO, of course).

Thanks for the tip. I had thought about connecting the buildings with fiber as I am doing that with a few other projects. However, I am only going 100' and all I am asking of this network connection is to connect one PC in the satellite location. Fiber seems like overkill at the time. In case the plans change, I am burying 1" conduit and leaving the string in there....
