Anyone know if this can be done?
Where I want to be is DDR2700 with low latency (CL2), and rather than buying 2x512MB DIMMS rated at this latency (they cost an arm and an eye) I was wondering what my chances are at taking a DDR3200 CL2.5 module and running it at DDR2700 CL2.0.
I am going to buy a new MB soon and am planning to go for nforce2 since I already have an XP1900+ (Palomino core, I believe) that I'd like to keep for a while yet. Since Nforce2 performs best with mem and CPU running at the same frequency I thought I'd unlock my palomino, up the FSB to 166 (yes, and lower multiplier - I am not insane.. yet.. 🙂) and get some nice 333 CL2 memory to go with it.
The price difference between Crusader PC2700/CL2/512 modules and TwinMOS PC3200/CL2.5/512MB is ~70USD where I live, so obviously there's money to be saved here. Big question is, will it work?
