Can't find a discussion thread on this for some reason, but just got a humble couple for half of so finally picking up a copy. What are the good tips for a first timer to this version?

its pretty much the same game as the previous one.

go first though diplomacy when weak, and then turn into a hegimon and start gobbling up other countries.

There are no Civ games after IV.
Meh i thought 5 was decent, but for the life of me and with well over 3000+ hours in the various Civ games i cannot get into Civ 6

/Europe Universalis 4 is my crack of choice now

Well I know it's a different game then Civ VI, but I like the Civ: Beyond Earth with the Rising Tide expansion pack. I don't think that gets the love it deserves.

I certainly like Civ 6 more than 5, but that isn't saying much. My friends and I, who have played hundreds if not more than one thousand hours of Civ 4, haven't finished one game of CIv 6. We just don't really care. Sad.

What's multiplayer like on Europe Universalis, similar to Civ 5?
How's the AI, my friends & I enjoy Civ 5 but the big bummer is the completely passive AI in multiplayer.

Thank you for any input

I've never played a multiplayer game of it, the AI has been more than enough of a challange. The learning curve is steep, the base game itself is usually very cheap/on sale somewhere, the dlc's are a welcome feature.

Paper Mache, cartography! I can't get into this either, I think its the graphics. I think they should increase zoom level and make it full 3D. Or maybe I have too many other games to get through.

The graphics didn't bother me in the last one, but they did in this one and coupled with the dumbed down feel of gameplay it gave me the impression I was playing a kiddy version of king of the hill. I don't feel like I'm the ruler of a great civilization, but playing some arcade game and trying to flip as many coins as possible.

Anyone playing the Rise and Fall expansion?

Doesn't look good on Steam :(

No, it wasn't worth to me at this price.

If you want a more positive possible reason: maybe the low ratings are because it offers less improvement than Civ 4 and 5 expansions did, because the base game was already improved more.

Hmm the previews made it sound like there was a massive overhaul to the systems and a bunch of never seen before additions.

It's like $23 on grreenmangaming. I feel like I wasted $60 already on the base game and never finished any. Was hoping to recoup my loss by spending $23 more lol

Maybe I should just go back to Civ 4 and find some mods.

I have tried to play Civ6 several times, and I just can't get into it. Civ5 was pretty good after all the expansions IMO, and I still fire it up from time to time. I have played this series since the first one, and I enjoyed all of them until 6.

Civ 6 is weird, lots of stuff I like but it all has a downside
Not having to deal with the unhappiness perpetually but now I feel City construction is too easy
City management aspect is really cool but it’s frustrating to not be able to build any wonders because your starting area is small or poor terrain
AI seems better but it still sucks in multiplayer
Game launches much faster but it still doesn’t support PC vs Mac play
Game pace is sped up, I feel like I always accomplish something but it feels too fast with the era’s changing so quickly
Animations and day/night changes are pretty fun but the cartoon look is not

Well I bought it. Don't like it, but I think that's mainly because it's vastly different than the previous ones and I'm not used to the systems.

I had a new;y founded city with low population revolt and some how they ended up with 4-5 units to defend with even though I only had 1 stationed and none near bye before the revolt.

I joined another Civ in a war to liberate a fallen city state and then they got pissed when my units traveled through their land to get to that city state and ended up declaring war on me. Not sure if that was a coincidence.

I picked up Rise and Fall and it's been growing on me to the point that I don't want to stop playing.

I think a lot of my problem was assuming that it was Civ 4 still and I could fall back on my old play style.

That's not the case though. There's a lot of changes under the hood to the systems and I just didn't take the time to learn them. For instance tundra and desert can actually be useful. It's also no longer a matter of plopping down mines or farms as you need to plan these out and stack them with districts.

City states are a lot less annoying and offer some good bonuses.

There's a few things I hate like not being able to build any wonder you want and the AI still does corney things tell me how great my navy is even when I have just 1 ship lol
