Yeah, no one's even mentioned Fall From Heaven yet. That mod is amazing, like an almost entirely new game.

I've never played that yet, but I know it's an amazing mod with a huge following. I guess I'm not into the fantasy realm so much anymore.

If you want a mod that will give you a run for your money try out Legends of Revolution http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=325253

The AI is a lot harder, barbarians if left unchecked can spring into full blown civilizations and cities if not happy can launch into revolt.

Other than missing the throne room, it's probably by far the best of the civ series.

That's the one thing I've missed in the last two games. I don't know why they took it out and I'd love to know why it was never put back in or modded in.

I will second that, Fall From Heaven ( or Fall Further being the latest and bigggest ) is incredible. Warning - it can be incredibly hard too.

Another excelent mod is Legends of Revolution. Also makes the game harder. Basically Civilizations can revolt and spawn new civs. sometimes right on your doorstep. Let me give you an example: Recent game I am still playing in fact as the Japanese. To my west was my inferior but friendly Celtics. They had maybe 3 cities to my 6. Well, they had a revolt and spawned HITLER of all people. More like an abortion gone bad. Well, I believe since I was friendly with the Celtics, Hitler automatically hated my guts. Very soon after the civ spawed Hitler attacks my capital which was left very weak due to my assault of the puny French to the East.....

Long story short, mods make the replay of this game virtually endless.

I always love CIV threads... the responses are all the same and completely unanimous. God I hate to love this game/series.

The only problem with Civ games is that they're so long that I never finish them. I save them and don't like to resume from a quasi-unknown point and so start over again and again and again.

Yea, I do the same thing. Also if I get a crushing lead early, which can happen even on monarch I get really bored with the game fast and end up not finishing it. Still great game though.

Haha, me too. Most games reach a point where you know your f***ed or you know you are steamrolling to easy win.

I have several hours into it already. And while I must say...a very steep learning curve...it is a game that I "do" wanna learn completely and properly.

And yes, it is very good even though I lost my first scenario.

That's exactly it. That said, LAN games with 3+ humans are great fun as you never really want to take a commanding lead (unless it will win) as this will guarantee your opponents ganging up on you.

I can never stand Turn based games in multiplayer. Even the ones where the developers claim it's been streamlined for multiplayer I just can't enjoy them.

I would love a multiplayer game of civ4 even if it was ony for a couple hours every weekend; haven't ever seen another wanting to play though.

Isn't there an email option too? Granted, that would probably take forever... :)

I used to play with some friends every weekend till completion. They don't really play anymore though :( That said I would happily join you guys for some MP fun so long as everyone was committed to finishing a game once started :)
