It's a good deal. It's the same price Steam had it for a little while ago.

Oh, and yes it's a pretty good game. I purchased it from Steam even though I already had all of them except the redo of Colonization just so I would have them on my Steam account.

Oh dear god you poor soul. I hope you don't work tomorrow, I predict a long sleepless night ahead for you!

It's level of addictiveness is up there with crack. Just. One. More. Turn.

The game is worth $50, especially the complete pack. You'll get more than $10 worth out of it!

It's good but having played the original back in the day, Civ 2 and SMAC I have to say it is not the best.

I'm not complaining though. Spent a lot of time playing it (especially the scenarios in the expansions, the space-based one especially) and Colonisation 4.

This game is pretty good. Not the best 4X series, but close. If you want an even more addictive 4x game, try Galactic Civilizations 2.

This is all you need to know about Civ http://www.civanon.org/home.shtml

:D

CIV is turned based so it differs from AoE in that way.

You may want to pickup the Beyond the Sword expansion pack while you're at it as just about everyone plays that instead of 'vanilla' CIV. It's called an expansion pack, but what it adds in content is like a full retail game.

The CIV franchise is awesome, very, very addictive and remember, never fight a land war in Asia.

This is the complete edition...Comes with all three expansions.

CIVILIZATION IV
WARLORDS
BEYOND THE SWORD
COLONIZATION

You are a golden boy then :)

Just play BTS, it's heads and shoulders above CIV IV. Of course the added content may be over the top to learn for a first time CIV player.

SMAC > Civ 4 BTS > Civ 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Civ 3

It is one of the best TBS games out there, only rivals I can think of would be Master of Orion.

Ditto what everyone else has said. That game will eat your time like you wouldn't believe. It's candy-coated crack.

Agree with playing Beyond the Sword.

Other than missing the throne room, it's probably by far the best of the civ series.

Beyond the Sword is where its at. Just play that - I never play any of the other games. Colonization was dull.

Yeah Civ3 wasnt great. THe corruption was ridiculous.

I actually really enjoyed Civilization 3. The editor simply made the game. I never had any problem with corruption because I made a custom rule set that made corruption much more manageable and realistic. I also had custom units like a mobile missle launcher that carried up to four cruise missles. I might have to look around and see if I saved that file.

Is this a good game ?

I have wanted to play this game for years but have a couple of problems. First of all the learning curve is very steep. I've tried twice to play it giving up both time because I wasn't quite getting it.
My other problem is that Total War(especially Rome) has raised the bar to such an extent that it's had a huge impact on what strategy games I'll play now.

I really want to get into this title. Maybe I will force myself one more time.

maybe start with Civ 2 if you're not the type to get all goofy about dated graphics? It's a bit less complicated, and becomes straightforward after the first couple of hours.

Like others have said before, even if you spend that initial time confused, annoyed, and bored, you'll keep playing and you may not know why....

Here's a nice html "walk through" of a game by someone who helped develop Civ4:

http://www.garath.net/Sullla/civ4intro.html

It's one of many numerous millions of ways you can play the game - but it gives you a general idea of when where what and why the game is addictive. :)

Here's a pdf guide [linked within a forum post] which covers a lot of the core mechanics of the game:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=165632

on the same site are literally hundreds..no thousands..no millions of guides which should only help to confuse you even more. :)
