We’re beyond excited to show off what we’ve been working on at the Firaxis Games Mega Panel this weekend at PAX East.

Tomorrow, @FiraxisGames reveals a new game at the #PAXEast MegaPanel. See you there?

I would murder all of you to make it be a new Alpha Centauri. I know EA owns the rights to it, but surely they would be reasonable.

I still love Civ but I would be "meh" at Civ 6. Partially that is because I am getting old and time is speeding up, because it seems to me like Civ 5 came out, say, 6 months ago, and Civ 4 was maybe a couple years before that, though that is obviously not true. But also, just, something different would be nice. Loved their XCOM remake, so something out of nowhere like that would be cool too.

Hope it is a spiritual successor of Alpha Centauri. I have quite enjoyed Firaxis's take on the likes of Pirates and X-Com, but I want something a bit deeper but not in the Civilization franchise. I'm assuming Civ VI is an eventualaity so I hope they don't waste an announcement on that. Firaxis annoucing Civ VI at this point is like Apple announcing a new iPhone.

What I hope to hear:

"Fraxis is proud to announce Centauri, a spiritual successor to Alpha Centauri!"

What I expect to hear:

"Fraxis is proud to announce Centauri, a spiritual successor to Alpha Centauri, reimagined as a First Person Shooter MMO. (with microtransactions, early access available now)"

Yeah I would not doubt that.

exactly why i do not put much effort into caring when sid meier is involved anymore

never even tried civ 5

and old school civilazation with the war mechanics of total war that might amaze me

edit: you should try planetside 2. soe puts some monetary crap in the game but there is a lot to be enjoyed there without paying anything

also nothing wrong with early access in my opinion

The whole world has their attention on mobile. I think it is just a fad like it was with the PC. One day, humanity will obsess over smartwatch games (no more holding a device).

After that, they will obsess over smartcontact games (no more weight or power, it is powered by your robotic distracted blinking).

Someone get me vodka.....

so if it was a alpha centauri successor would it use a map system like civilization or the old alpha centauri?

could they at least upgrade to a more reasonable map system like sword of the stars or sins of a solar empire?

blegh, mobile games. What a horrible interface. It's like the shovelware games on the Wii.

As long as Brian Reynolds is a part of it, it should be good.

FTFY. Brian Reynolds is the real genius. He did Civ2, Alpha Centauri and Rise of Nations. Him and/or Soren Johnson who was the lead designer for Civ4. Sid Meier really had nothing to do with any of the civ games past Civ 1.

Unfortunately both Brian Reynolds and Soren Johnson now work for Zynga making mobile apps. What a waste :(

They specifically said "AAA game" which is a stupid term but I'm pretty sure it means "not mobile", not something like Ace Patrol (which was a cool distraction but not a lot to it), etc.

If you read anything about working at Firaxis, it always sounds like Sid is heavily involved in everything, he's just not the main designer. I agree Brian Reynolds is awesome though. Though he doesn't work at Zynga anymore, but whatever he's doing now still sounded like F2P bullshit. :(

Sounds like it's going to be a new IP or completely new take on an old IP.

Maybe a FPS Xcom type game? Maybe a SidCity to do clean that bad simcity taste out our mouths? Maybe just another well polished RTS?

I'm hoping for a SidCity :D

ooooh a new pirates! game :D

It's tomorrow! Where's the damn announcement?

Leaked possibility of spiritual successor to Alpha Centauri called Civilization Beyond Earth.

From one of the posts in that thread:

Preview of the game in French. Translation:

-You'll go beyond earth as the title implies, making it more like Alpha Centauri.
- Out this Autumn
- You start on an alien world
- There are three types of worlds: Lush, Airy and Fungal
- You'll still be building cities like in CIv V but to expand to other planets you'll use outposts.
- You can be the first to explore a new planet and you may find some neutral creatures/races on those worlds. You can either destroy them or leave them be.
- Relics are still in.
- You can win the game by returning to earth. To do that you'll need to put a satellite in orbit around the earth and you can either return to earth to win or you can bring the refugees of earth to your home world.
- You can use diplomacy with other players right from the start.
- Fog of War is still present
- There are now orbital units that you can command like satellites.
