Civilization 2002: Egyptians say "we will gladly smite the evil Israelis for 100 billion gold coins!"

Rut roh... so long as we don't hear "Our words are now backed by nuclear weapons!"

Story link

Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid hinted to a Persian Gulf newspaper Wednesday that his country would be ready to wage war on Israel if the Arab states were to send $100 billion to fund it.

"If you want to take action, if you are ready to rise to the challenge, you must send $100 billion," the prime minister told Al Itiihad when asked why Egypt, which is "the largest Arab state," had not responded to Israel's offensive against the Palestinians.

"I told you that we wanted $100 billion," he told the paper when asked if Egypt could at least "expel the Israeli ambassador" from Cairo.

"The Arab world must allocate $100 billion from Arab coffers deposited around the world. It must say to Egypt: 'This is the national budget. This budget is at your disposal, start the confrontation'."

Didn't they already try this 5 times? Failing each time and getting pretty embarrassed in the process?

<< Failing each time and getting pretty embarrassed in the process?

The difference between sanity and insanity. A sane person will do try something, note the result, then expect it again. An insane person will try something, note the result, then try it again expecting something entirely different.

Yup...same situation...though this time, without Soviet backing :Q

I guess the Arabs like getting spanked by the Israelis.

History does not look kindly on those who repetedly attack someone and constaly loose.

China would love to sell their arms for $100B. Let's see how good are chinese-made weapons!

And the Egyptians are armed with American weapons this time. :Q I'm not saying the training is the same or that the egyptians could toe to toe with the Israelies but they do have the same weapons as the Israelies and Egypt is one of the few countries in the world that we sell the M1A1 Tank to.

It seems to have worked for the Arab world though...losing all the fights means they now get to have victim status--meaning other perennial losers (i.e. France) side with them, full force...w00t!

Makes it a whole lot easier to pick the proper ammo off the casualties.

Some people really like to ram their head into a brick wall repeatedly. They'll do it even more if you pay them 😉

Of course. Get 100bill from the united arab countries. Spend only 60-70bill amassing the war effort. Instant 30-40billion gold coin profit.

You forgot to subtract the expense of rebuilding Egypt after the US and Israel bomb the crap out of it.

Heck the US should just pay them the money to get their butts kicked. We can televise it live on CNN and laugh our asses off while curled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn. 😉

The US would never offer direct millitary assitance, don't be silly. The Israelies don't need our assitance to kick ass. Egypt wouldn't get destroyed, Israel would never extend themselves beyond the canal because it would open their flanks and spread their forces too thin. Egypt would most likely take the 100bill, rattle some sabers get in a couple skirmishes with Israel and sign a new treaty with them pocketing 80% of the money. They want 100bill because they know they would lose the current 2billion a year in american aid they recieve.

Israel's been within striking distance of having ground forces in Cairo twice...international pressure kept them away though...
