How good is your knowledge of civics?

Civics Quiz

I got 31 out of 33. The average score of the 2500 responding to a phone survey was 49% correct, and the ISI gave failing grades to 71% (1791) of the 2500. Kind of sad. Only 21 out of the 2500 got 90% or higher. Pretty depressing.

29 out of 33. Missed the Gettysburg address question, the Puritans (was torn between the right answer and religious freedom)The FDR Supreme Court question and the tax question. Not bad.

26, but most of what I know about the US is based upon learning it myself since moving here; US history is not that heavily taught in Canada (not that I'm sure of that; I never paid attention anyway).

EDIT: Hell, based on the stats mentioned, I'm pretty pleased with my score :)

30, some really random stuff in there. Some answers were worded pretty badly. Ah well, 90% isn't too bad

25. Some of the historical questions I just didn't know. I don't understand how #33 can't be A as well. When income equals spending, debt equals zero. You could make an argument for C too.

Deficit = 0 :)

I actually liked the "government isn't doing anybody any good" on that one. It kind of made sense!

28 and I agree. That one could go either way.

I missed that one, the puritan one, the couple of Lincoln questions (the debate and Gettysburg address quote) and the Plato/Aristotle questions. That last one I guess is loosely a civics question, if you consider historical philosophers as the basis of thought for much of modern civilization.

31.

Miss read #32 thought it said lower 'interest' rates

Same with #33. The 'correct' answer is worded strange.

If spending always equaled taxation, debt would be zero as well.

Also, C could be considered wrong depending on how you look at it. Not everyone pays taxes but everyone sees the result of spending so the tax per person (assuming person = taxpayer) will not equal the spending per person.

Or maybe I just overanalyze things. :p

You could have debt by issuing bonds, t-bills, by way of example.
