Any download a bunch of free mods.

One thing I really like about Civ 5 is the ability to easily download mods from within the game. Then you can check off which ones you want to use for your particular game session.

The fact that Civ4 still sells for $20 consistently today, 7 years after it was released, compared to $7 for Civ5 1 year after release, should indicate its quality :)

Have you tried any that you can recommend? I'm missing out on my Civ fix and was thinking of playing V again.

Man, I got this for $10 during Steams big sale last week. $7.50 is even better, and probably what the game is really worth. It's fun, if you like Civ games. It's just a little more relaxing than the others. They dumbed it down, but it's still fun to play.

Among fans of previous Civilization titles, V is near universally hated.

I bought Civ5 on preorder at full price. And its on my list of Top Five worst gaming purchases I've ever made. Wish I could get a refund or resell games through Steam. I'd sell you my copy of Civ 5 for 5 dollars if I could.

Same here. Only MOO3 was more disappointing for me.

Well, I've bought worse games. Quite a few of them actually. Civ 5 nothing compared to IV or III. CivIII is the best in the series, if you ask me. 5 takes away so much of what makes the older Civ games so addictive. I did say it was dumbed down. Even so, it's not unplayable and doesn't completely bore me to death. For $50 I'd be really pissed off, but for $10 it's alright.

It's not a bad buy. Yes, it's not even close to Civ IV overall, but it's still a fun play that will give any Civ fan many hours of value.

True, it sucked at $50, but at $10 or less it's easily a decent buy---again, for a real Civ fan.

Civ V is a great game to play when you're in-between Civ IV games and want to relax. :)

I might be biased though. I've put thousands of hours into Civ games over the years and it's my #1 choice for gaming. And I love strategy games first and foremost. I knew Civ V wouldn't top Civ IV, so perhaps that's why I never hated it as much.

UUuuhhhh, finally! All over this!

Has the game been well patched since release?

Actually it has. I bought it at launch and it was horrible. I tried it again a few months later and I still couldn't get through a whole game. Then, a few months ago I decided to give it one more try. This time I actually found it was quite good and have played all the way through a few times.

I still miss some of the features of Civ IV such as religion, wonder building movies, and good narration but Civ V has evolved into a decent game. I'm not sure if any of the DLC is worth it. I'm getting really tired of companies trying to bleed us dry with expensive crappy DLC. This game did convince me never to buy a game near launch but at least they did eventually patch it into something playable. It's definitely worth $7.50.

I own all the DLC. The new civs are worth it. The Spain/Inca and Korea DLC are the best two IMHO. They go on sale from time to time.

I love this game.
I never played any of the previous Civs. Actually this is the only TBS game i've ever played.

I got the vanilla game free with a hardware purchase and finally tried it out and got
hooked.
Then i bought all the DLC that included new Civs, which i quite like.
Babylon + Korea + Inca are awesome, and Spain and Polynesia are okay, with Denmark probably being the worst of the DLC civs (though i've not yet played as him).

Anyway, for $7.50, yeah, well worth it IMHO.

Also, they have mentioned a new patch is coming, which could help with some current concerns people have. Details not yet known.
