The inside of her home is clean and very neat. She has chosen to live off the grid and live an alternative lifestyle where she does not need to utilize city water, or electricity. Her taxes are paid and current and she paid her home off years ago. They showed the inside of her home and it looks very well maintained. But the city got wind that she had no running water, and deemed her house unfit to live.

You really have to watch the video. It is unbelievable that they can do this, without ever having set foot in her house and doing a real inspection.

It looks like there's a good chance the city might reverse the decision.

The only thing the government fears is people who no longer need the government.

Government know what's best for you. Isn't that what liberals believe? Just be glad they aren't throwing her in prison for her heinous crime.

Oh, and: Wrong forum.

And conservatives hate government, especially in the bedroom.

If the news story is correct the rule they tried to use was incorrect.

But most cities have rules that a house must have running water. So if they do have that rule then they would just need to update the code violation.

No, conservatives seem to love government in the bedroom. Not sure where you get your info.

If you're thinking of libertarians then yes, they aren't terribly fond of government anywhere, including the bedroom.

Oh okay because it seemed from your post that you thought liberals were the ones with the monopoly on government intrusion since you specifically said liberals.

Here's a fun fact. According to this link, Cape Coral FL is the 16th most conservative city in the entire country.

11 posts and you guys are asking for an infraction or thread lock. I have opinions, but I don't feel the need to smear the internet with them most of the time..
I personally think this is stupid though. (The house issue.)

I said nothing of this specific municipality, only that "liberals" believe that government is better at running people's lives than people are. If the government says her home needs city water, who is she to argue?

The city is revoking the certificate of occupancy which is based on having running water and electricity of which the house has neither.

The house should be bulldozed.

Why doesn't she turn them on and just don't use them? It would cost a little money in minimum billings, but they couldn't say she doesn't have them available.

I know. You saw government intruding and took the opportunity to bash "liberals," because that is all you know how to do, even when it is conservatives that are intruding. Keep clinging to the straw man that liberals just want to expand government. Keep ignoring the fact that conservatives tend to expand government more than liberals do. Keep using that straw man to block out any possibility that government can actually be helpful in some situations, block out any possibility that liberals could be right about some things, and remind yourself that you are the truly enlightened one.

Why should she have to? It's completely absurd that she be forced to pay for services she neither needs nor wants, just to satisfy some stupid government regulation.
