My friend that saw someone playing City of Heroes said it was just people in outfits dancing the whole time. Is the game worth playing if you're serious or is it just a "screw around" game?

I love it. You can screw around a lot, but there's much more than just dancing to the boombox.

Errr, I imagine in any MMORPG you can find your share of people congregating and screwing around. See Ironforge in WoW. And yes, these wretches usually head straight for a zone well-trafficked by lowbies for bizarre reasons. But seriously, do you think most people bought the game and pay a subscription fee for that? Check out some reviews or give it a whirl yourself.

Personally, I really like CoH, and have been dropping back in more after a break for WoW. Superheroes! Not yet-another-DnD onliner. Fun play, great sense of freedom, fun picking out your class, powers and then tweaking those powers as you level. Great costume design options, and all expansions thus far have been free. No loot squabbles, + instanced missions so you're not competing against other farmers. PvP instances added, and City of Villians is in beta. Way less buggy than WoW* and with a far more responsive dev team on the forums, despite the bargeloads of money coming in monthly to Blizzard.

Anyhow, YMMV, but if MMO + Superheroes float your boat, definitely worth a try.

*Mention WoW because it's the only other MMO I've played, and is incredibly popular. Good game too, just using for comparison.

CoH was the first mmorpg where I found the majority of my time was spent screwing around. Such as flying in circles or window jumping. It was fun for a good month.

WoW is not an NCsoft title......... or were you using it as a point of reference?

Ah, this might settle it for anyone curious:

Do you have some friends that will only play an MMO if they get to try it for free first?

Yeah, us too.

So we decided to give out 14 day free trials to anyone in the US and Canada that wants one. Yes, really.

Send a friend to this link to get all the details and to get signed up. Then show them around the town and why CoH is the only way to fly.

NOTE: This 14 Day Trial applies to new customers on the U.S. servers only. European players can go here to get information on the current promotion available in their area.

https://secure.plaync.com/cgi-bin/coh_free_trial.pl

Didn't read the details, but if you want to find out what it's like, sounds like you can give it a whirl for free.

the "hardcore"-ness you speak of is nonexistent in WoW. 1 month, and you're maxed out. That's why it's so popular in the US, since you get a quick fix/buzz/lvlup.

In L2, people who have been playing for 1.5 yrs not even at the halfway point to maxing out their level, equipment, etc.

The most hardcore person i've seen in L2 has a lvl 75 main class, and a lvl 55 or so subclass. He still have another subclass to lvl to 75 which takes ages, and equipment for each subclass, pvp, losing equipment, blah.

L2 is just a never ending grind w/ a whole lot of pvp. WoW --> 1 month to max.
L2 ---> probably 2-3 yrs to max out (playing moderately hardcore).

I've played this game since its release last yr febuary. I only have a mid lvl 60 char, and a lvl 36 char. I'm not even close to starting a subclass, since that'll take me probably 'till the end of this yr.

Anyone have word on the next Korean MMO to hit our market: Sun? By Webzen. I'm thinking it'll be another Lineage 2.
