When I have OJ, pineapple, grapefruit, etc, I often get a few inflamed taste buds that sting when touched. This happens about a third of the time and has been happening all my life. Some people I talked to said that it never happens to them and that it sounded like an allergy. All the information I can find online mentions other symptoms, like indigestion. They also say that it is not the citric acid people with citrus allergies react to but, considering the symptom mis-match, perhaps that's exactly what I am reacting to? Well, I'm not giving up my Vitamin-C to find out, ye scurvy dogs. Other than heartburn which I get from anything acidic, I don't get any indigestion from citrus.

Now, I DO get severe indigestion with bananas often enough that I avoid eating them when I don't have something to eat them with. When I look online for any kind of banana allergy, I find a similar mis-match of symptoms. Once again, this has been life-long and I haven't encountered anyone else with this problem... even my twin brother.

I feel bad for you... All of those things that you seem to have allergic reaction from -- I love them. They are extremely delicious and nutritious.

This.

I do know a couple people that get canker sores from them at times but it's still worth eating them then.

Do you eat HFCS-containing foods as well? Your body might be too acidic to tolerate citric acid as a result. Consult a chiropractor immediately.

i get canker sores if i eat/drink too much citrus. so i limit myself to one small glass a day.

i also get really bad indigestion/heartburn when i eat bananas. when i eat a banana about 30 min later im in a lot of discomfort going for antacids. i love bananas but my stomach does not so i just dont eat them anymore.

about 3 years ago i found out i developed a melon allergy! and melons are my fav fruit. i was munching on a awesome perfectly ripe cantaloupe and ill be damned but my lips started tingling, my ears started ringing. my tongue started feeling funny... a few months later i tried eating a watermelon and it like paralyzed my vocal cords i could not talk but a airy wisp. my friends started freaking out and wanted to take me to the hospital. other than it affecting my vocal cords i felt fine and it passed in about a hour. so no more melon for me.

Why not ask an actual doctor, and not Dr ATOT?

Doctors cost a lot of money and it's something I've been willing to live with all my life this far. Even if I planned to, I expect to at least try to find others with a similar condition in the vastness of the Internet and to have done a tiny bit of research before I do go to a doctor.
