citrix metaframe xp fr3 26013 error

I'm setting up a new citrix farm. The citrix server is running windows 2000 server, and the database server is sql 2000 on windows server 2003. The error I'm recieveing is 26013 which basically says theres someting wrong with the user name or password thats being used to connect to the sql store. I have researhed citrix's site and came up with the link I pasred below. The problem is that this does not apply to me because I'm using sql authentication and not windows.

Can you connect to the database from the SQL server via ODBC?
Open excel (or access...whatever) and make a query to the SQL database using that username and pw. If that works, then create a new instance of the Citrix database and try to connect to it. Follow the directions from Citrix to the T...
