Citizen's United is backfiring

Make no mistake the net effect is disastrous for democracy, with the money determining who has a chance to win - just as Obama is raising a billion dollars from interests.

It's nice this exception is happening, but it doesn't help with the problem of the elections being owned by the money and the people losing power.
 
Free speech is great, as long as liberals agree with the message

Thank you Ausm for the crystal clear illustration of how liberals only care about free speech and the laws when it is in their interest and you are in fact fascist.

Only a power hungry corrupt hypocritical tyrannical liberal would think that a court decision protecting political free speech "backfired" because in some particular instance it allowed speech which hurt republicans. See, republicans actually care about free speech, private property, etc for everyone. Even liberals.
 
Only in the mind of a closed minded leftist would they think free political speech is bad or people or organizations engaging in it backfiring.

Oh, but I do. Citizen's vs FEC was regarding corporations, not individuals. Not sure how its applicable to your OP.

So you think they shouldn't be allowed to run the ads? They are political speech and cannot be silenced. It is you who don't understand the ruling. The government tried to argue they could ban books as well. And the bitch that made that position is now on the supreme court.

I expect Obama to condemn these ads any day now...
 
You are seeing growing pains. Newt is taking heat for outside PACs that he supposedly, but legally cannot, control. In the future you will see the donors to these "outside PACs' more effectively disguised.

I really don't see Citizens United as a left vs. right issue. I see it as an unmitigated diaster for human beings in general and a huge step forward into complete corporate governance of our lives. Present day so-called righties don't have a problem because for now their interests are generally aligned with the corporations. Our forefathers were greatly distrustful of corporations-it took a long time for them to be recognized as ficticious legal persons.

I know this may sound like batshit crazy paranoid musings but come back in a couple of decades and reflect again on what a (bad) turning point Citizens United was.
 
Hopefully, the Citizens United ruling will cause both corps AND unions to lose their power to spend money on elections. Maybe unions will also lose their tax free status too.

Am I the only one who finds it funny that the righties in here are doing their best to refer to allowing more money to purchase more speech rights as "free speech". Doesn't sound very free to me.

What I love about it is that the Righties are using their new "Free Speech" to destroy each other. I might be guessing here but I suspect this was an unexpected consequence. 😀

How can I change the existing law? The reason why this law was passed was to bankroll elections and further corrupt an already corrupt election process even more.

I find it especially hilarious that the Right Wing Supreme court that passed this law is getting hammered by it. President Obama predicted this in his State of the Union address and the Rightist activist judges rolled their eyes at him.

But at the same time you pit the left against the right. Doesn't that kind detract from your message? You have turned this thread into a righties are crazy thread once again. No one can take you seriously with your beliefs because they always involve this theme. If you really believed what you said in your last post, every other post wouldn't be a right vs. left rant. If you really believe what you posted then you would know this is just as much an issue for Obama and the left as it is for the right. Funny how your OP says otherwise.
