This is a phenomenal watch. I have a similar model and paid over twice as much.

Very nice. Citizen watches are sweet. Titanium Eco-Drive are the way to go though. Still a good deal.

This is an outstanding price on this watch, if it's your thing. I have known a number of AF pilots who favored this model, though it's a little much for me (I'm wearing a lovely late-70's Seiko 6309 automatic diver's watch). It normally sells for nearly twice this price even from overseas vendors.

Nice deal. I've been thinking about getting the JR3090-58L for myself.

I wouldn't give you 5 cents for a Citizen watch. They are a POS, the company doesn't stand behind them, and service totally sucks.

I bought one after my 5+ year old cheapo Freestyle Shark's battery finally went dead. The Citizen was far and away the most expenive watch I ever owned. The Citizen is rated to a depth of 200 meters. I had it about 6 months and wore it snorkeling and the thing fogged up BAD. I am a programmer, is typing to rigorous for the watch? I called their service center and they asked me to send it in to them for evaluation at my shipping expense. I sent it in and then they were trying to make **ME** pay for repairs. I reminded them it had a 5 year warranty and it didn't even last 6 months so they agreed to repair it. I got it back and they fixed it alright. I could no longer pull the stem out to reset it (daylight savings time you know). I called service again and they said, "uhhhh, we must have put in the wrong stem, you'll need to send it back again for repairs". It has sat on a shelf in the bathroom in the sun to keep it running ever since.

I should have mailed it back in a box along with a smoldering pile of dog poop to the president of the company. If you really want one, I'll sell you one cheap!!!

Oh, and what am I wearing now you ask? I went to a surf shop and bought another Shark and it has been running flawlessly for 3 years now and cost about $40. Something like this:

Be aware, though, that ecost adds a "processing & handling charge" which they don't tell you about until the last page of checkout.

This is a solar-powered watch. I went with Seiko Kinetic, which is arm-motion powered. They both require no batteries.

Your experience is unfortunate, but in the main Citizens are perfectly decent watches. I prefer Seiko, when it comes to gigantic Japanese watch consortiums (actually I have 5 Seikos in my collection, and no Citizens), but regard Citizens as their peers when it comes to design and assembly quality.

IMHO all of these are bloated - who really uses the chrongraph? I'd rather buy a clean auto euro watch ala OMEGA

I won't really use anything except the time and date, I just liked the watch.

The Titanium version was $236 on Amazon last week, I almost bought one but decided to have my Omega fixed instead.

That's a matter of taste I suppose. The Omega is very nice but I wonder if you'll find one for $188?

That's not really an apples-to-apples comparison, in that any Omega will be much costlier than this (and, other than the X-33, which is quartz, much less full-featured). That said, I too prefer mechanical watches, and for this kind of money, you can get a very appealing Japanese mechanical watch (I personally like the Seiko automatic divers).

The Skyhawk is a great watch if you need or at least value its features (as I said, I know a number of AF pilots who use them), but it's not really my thing. I'm wearing this watch, a late-70s Seiko which was essentially completely built from old parts with great love by a master watchmaker.

Certainly good watch, a bit yungish, but Ok. Unfortunately titanium version costs twice more.

I'm not sure what "yungish" means.

I don't love this watch, but I like it better than I would in titanium. I don't really like ti as a watchmaking material. I find it too light, and it gives the watch an insubstantial feel. Ti generally scratches more easily than stainless as well (though this depends on the actual alloys used in both cases, and Citizen has actually pioneered using a ti alloy with greater surface hardness on its Promaster Tough series).

On the other hand, Titanium does not transfer heat as readily as steel, so putting on a watch in the morning doesn't feel as "cold"

Small (38mm or so) watches in Titanium do feel like toys. However, for a larger watch, it makes for a nice weight - not unsubstantion, but not too heavy. I have a Russian/European model Citizen diver watch, which is about 41-42mm in diameter and is Ti. It hugs the wrist nicely and doesn't make itself TOO noticeable, unlike a wrist-buster lsuch as my Seiko SKX781K "Orange Monster," weighing in at over 6 oz :)

I don't wear a watch, but maybe I'll buy one for somebody's b-day present.

I have my second citizen watch in 10 or so years.
Very fine watches IMO and I probably would still have my old one if the crystal hadn't broken.
I am currently considering getting a new watch since my current one doesn't have the eco drive (which I will never go without ever again), and both battery and wristband (leather) are starting to wear out strong ...

Good points, though I still like stainless better. Actually, my first mechanical watch was a Black Monster, and now I have the following, from most to least invested:

- Sinn 656
- Seiko 6309-7040, hand-built by Randall Benson with a NOS movement, serviced, relumed, with a HOT sapphire crystal
- Hamilton Khaki automatic chronograph
- Seiko SKX007 with Yao MoD date dial, sword hands, and sapphire crystal
- Seiko SKX779
- Ollech & Wajs MP 2801
- Zeno Explorer
- Casio G-Shock MTG930DA
- Timex Indiglo dress watch
- Seiko 7T32 quartz chronograph
- Weird Seiko S-Wave TV-shaped dress watch
- Early '60s Seiko Seikomatic Self-Dater dress watch.

Nice watch! I Love my EcoDrive, but it's a dress model. I still have my first Citizen watch. I found it while snorkling the river in New Braunfels about 15 years ago. Still works perfectly, but it's just not as nice as the EcoDrive.

i've had a citizen's titanium eco-drive for the past 4 years ... it's been a fantastic watch. i wouldn't go back to stainless after wearing titanium. nice and light.
