my credit card expired at the end of june, about 2 weeks before June ended I called cause i hadnt recieved a new one. They said if it wasnt out already it should be any day and I would have it before the month ended. Well it didnt come and i moved to Houston for the summer.

About a little less then a week left in July I called again cause it still didnt get to my apartment in LA (my roommate was checking)...They said they would have to cancel that account and start a new one when i activate a card they were going to send me...well guess what instead of sending a card (even though thats what their records showed) all i got was a letter saying what to do when a card is stolen...

i call again and finally got them to overnight me a card...now between this last card being canceled a week before August and now i havent been able to pay off my card because i didnt have an open account, which i need to in order to buy something i want over the net (they didnt charge me for missing a months payement...

so i get the new card on sat. and im relieved because I need to order something for my mothers birthday by today, so i activate the account and pay off the balance, but since its sat. they say it wont happen till monday, im like, fine...well now its monday and the balance still hasnt been paid off and I will probably have to pay extra shipping now to get the present delivered to my mother in time...

rant over.

usually takes a few days to clear for online payments. yeah, i hate it, but hey, it's better than missing payments. shouldn't have taken so long to get a new card tho.

and yes, you should proll nab a 2nd card as a backup... one w/ a similar one time use thing like citibank (i love that.. only my discover has that option, and i never use my discover really).

THAT, my friend, is why you have more than one credit card. I have a few, if I ever have any problem, I just use another card. I then call up the problem company and tell I want to cancel the account. I've never actually had to cancel one though, as they always do exactly what I want them to do in order to resolve the problem and keep my business. What I always find funny, is that I never run a balance, so they don't make much off me anyways, but they still give in. If don't have good enough credit to get a second card then work to improve your credit rating ASAP!

Get one. Just make sure you stay in control of your spending. If don't think you can, lower the limit. Even if you don't need it a certain month, make at least one small purchase a month so you can pay it off. PAY IT ONTIME!!!!! The idea is to build your credit rating. It will be very helpful when you go to buy a car or house. I'm 22 and I see my friends who have low or no credit rating have all kinds of trouble when they go to buy a car or rent an apartment. I have great credit becasue I use my cards allot and pay them off on time. No debt for me. I have no problem getting the BEST rates when it comes to car loans and the like. When I get my first home in a few years I know I will be able to get a good mortage and not get screwed on the terms and rates by the mortagage company. Obviously it also helps me that I have a good job, but even with a low income level a good credit history is very helpful.
