i need a definate break from my cisco studies...getting burnt out. i dont want to stop all together as i would like to explore some other avenues.

i deal with network security everyday, so the CISSP seems like a logical choice. i've talked to some of our IA people, but wanted to know if any of you could guys could provide any personal experience with the material / exam. been reading the shon harris book for the last couple weeks...the CBK covers A LOT of material.

any input would be appreciated~!

The book is pretty decent. You basically just need to slog through the material and take the test. The test is an inch deep and a mile wide, as they say. It doesn't get in depth in any topic, but there is a lot of material that it covers.

If you are fairly technical, you'll probably find that the CISSP is not too difficult, especially compared to more technical certs like Cisco, Microsoft, etc.

It's really not that bad. If you have a decent amount of experience in the industry, you can take the test. The stuff you have to do to maintain the cert afterwards ia a bit of a pain, but generally you can go to any number of IT conferences every year and that will count. But the whole thing is basically a money-making scam. The value of the cert isn't what it used to be
