According to the Comcast Cable website, all Cisco uBR modems are "approved" for their network.
Based on that info, I bought a uBR904 that i saw on eBay for a fraction of is retail. So i get it and set everything up... nothing.
Everntually I had to go to radioshack and make myself an RJ-11 <-> RS232 over DB9 converter (a real bitch) so that i could use the IOS serial console on my PC. I then tried the 'plug-and-play bridging' configurations discussed in Cisco's manuals, and some that were discussed on other forums, so that the router would behave like a normal dumb modem. Still nothing.
Nobody at comcast support knows their ass from their elbow. They all ask the same generic questions that do not apply to this advanced modem. I turned on mac debugging which revealed that the modem was continuously cycling through upper frequencies (400-1000) looking for a signal. The exact error was something like:
..._QAM_NO_FEC_LOCK
Comcast sent a tech out, who had no idea how to configure the modem. He did recognise it as the model that they gave bussiness customers. I'm using a POS Motorola SB 5120 in the meantime and its not that stable.
