Cisco Smartports

Hi all,

I got a bit bored last night so I fired up the web interface to my 2950 switch to have a look at what it does.

Noticed these smartport settings that you can tell the switch what type of device is connected to each port, there seemed to be some predefined ones like desktop, access point, ip phone etc... I know they're there so you can define a set of settings and quickly configure ports instead of configuring them individually.

My question is where I can read up a bit more about what they offer? In terms of what each pre defined setting does? What advantage these pre defined settings is supposed to bring you? Searching on google and cisco didn't really help 🙁

Thanks in advance.
