Just got an old cisco 2509 router, trying to find out where
to get an IOS update for it.

Any suggestions?

DOn't u have to download IOS off the website.. where you have to on some kind of plan.. which you have to pay for..

You have to get an account with Cisco on their website. This will give you access to all the software you ever wanted. Bad thing is, if you didn't buy or have maintenance from cisco then you won't be able to download the software.

Let me know what you want to do with the router, how much flash and RAM it has and I'll e-mail you the IOS you need.

ps - what version is it now?

12.1.5 is the latest IOS for a 2509. You'll need up to 16Mb of Flash and 16Mb of RAM to run it though depending on which feature set you want.
