I know that the topic summary line summarizes a feature set of the IOS build that I'm wanting to download, but where can I find out what the W/VIP part is? Cisco's website blows ass for being friendly by the way.

Cisco's website is great if you know what you're looking for. Apparently you're trying to D/L code for a 7500 router. A VIP is a Versatile Interface Processor. It is used to put Port Adapters into a 7500 series router. Better question is, what are you trying to d/l code for?

winnar!

The code and code options are very different for the platform. And quite frankly Cisco's web site is pretty much the best there is out there.

-ps- extremely rare installations need enterprise, enterprise is like "everything" and for most all those features will never be used.

Who knows, maybe he really IS trying to d/l code for a 7500... And run a little Decnet or CLNS... Its possible, right?

Actually, I'm running a Catalyst 6509 with redundant SUP2/MSFC2 modules, an FWSM (also redundant) an IDSM and a NAM. I'm trying to figure out which version of IOS I require in the SUP2 modules to support all the other feature cards. I'd like to get the minimum number of features necessary to limit the attack profile of the box as much as possible.

You need the Cisco Compatibility Matrix.

Here's the link

You'll need a CCO login, but if you're able to download software, you should be able to access this site.

You can either manually enter the hardware, or cut & paste from some "Show" commands.

BTW: It's usually advisable to use the smallest image that will support your needs. It makes more RAM available for buffers and has less code (i.e., less chance for bugs). Enterprise (for most people) is driving a tack with a sledgehammer, and slows the entire system down.

Good Luck
