Cisco has yanked all its ads from YouTube

One of America's biggest tech companies has stopped running ads on YouTube after some of them appeared on channels promoting extremist content.
Cisco (CSCO) said in a statement Thursday that it has "temporarily paused advertising on YouTube due to instances where third party partners did not meet our brand guidelines."

The announcement came after a CNN investigation last month found that ads from major brands like Cisco, Adidas (ADDDF) and Facebook (FB) ran on YouTube channels promoting white nationalists, Nazis, pedophilia, conspiracy theories and North Korean propaganda.

Cisco's move illustrates the difficulties social media sites like YouTube face in keeping advertisers happy amid a proliferation of controversial content on their platforms.

Cisco originally announced it was pulling its ads from YouTube, which is owned by Google(GOOGL), in a blog post Wednesday about protecting its brand. But it later took the post down and reposted it Thursday with the reference to YouTube removed.

"Our intent was to address an industry-wide issue without singling out any partner or customer," Cisco said. "We reposted the blog with our position on brand safety as intended."

Good on them, Cisco's a big enough gorilla that they don't need to advertise with a site that can't manage to not host/advertise on extremist content.

Buring your head in the sand will do little to solve the problem created when hordes of psychologically miserable people have discovered a convenient way to make the lives of healthier people equally miserable by exposure to violent hatred. people like that aren't looking to avoid but for partnerships to deliver that pain. They seek to be better at being sick. We can't sleep in the middle of an epidemic. Sometimes the way to erect inhibition against those who cause pain is to threaten to cause them more of it in they really intend no mercy. This is why Islam makes so much more sense to me than Christianity, being the proper fulfillment of Christian intent. First you destroy the will to exert evil on others mercilessly and without compromise, and when you achieve acknowledged surrender, then you are obliged to forgive, but you only get one chance. Break that vow to reform and you're don't get a second chance. This is the conservative and the liberal working hand in hand, in my opinion.
 
maybe I'm a little tinfoil hat here but so be it.

Youtube is pushing official channels on it's site from well known major corporate outlets like Fox, MSNBC, CBS, etc.

And they're fine with channels of a political nature (not just extemist ones) that are a little more left or a little more right being de-monetized because they don't toe the establishment or insider D.C. bubble residents.

Younger people tend to get their news online rather than through the cable channels and as such political channels that started on youtube now have a target on their backs, regardless of the quality or diligence of said channels (some do cite credible news sources and give a little bit more left or right viewpoint without being racist/extremist etc.) Consider that the viewership of cable news itself seems to be mostly 60 and above in years.
