Cisco experts need help with router.

I heard that the Cisco 1004 ISDN router could also be configured for cable/adsl. Anyone know how this can be done?

Console Cable

You want a cable to go from your Serial port to you Router so you can use Telnet to configure it right ?

I am 99% sure it has to be a Roll-Over cable, and you need one of those Serial-to-RJ45 Adapters.

Hope that helps a lil, hey, I'm only a first year CISCO student 🙂

Rollover cable is the same thing as a console cable I believe. Sorry but I can't help you with your real question, do you already have this router or can you get a good price on it? Otherwise I don't see why you wouldn't buy a router designed for cable/adsl.

I got the pinouts from the cisco site and made a RJ-45 to DB9 cable. I already had a rollover calbe. What you need to do is plug the rollover cable into the RJ-45 (must be female) on the cable with the DB9 plug, this way it works great.

I've already got this router. I'm currently tring to sell it in the sells/trade form with no luck.

I believe you can purchase an add-in card for ADSL support, but I don't know what it is, or how to get it.

The console cable is used with a terminal emulator (eg Hyperterminal) to gain access to the IOS. Configuring it is useless if you don't have the hardware to support it in the first place.

That model CANNOT be used for Cable or DSL. You will need a much more current (and expensive) router if you wish to use Cisco.

If its an ISDN router, I doubt it. Does it look like this?
ISDN------CISCO------Ethernet
with no other interfaces? For a general purpose SOHO router connecting to a cable moddem or DSL modem it would look like
Cable or DSL modem------Ethernet------Cisco-------Ethernet
The general purpose router needs to be Ethernet on both sides. You could use it possibly as an IDSL router, since IDSL and ISDN are very similar.

What you could do is Cable------Hub----Ethernet------Cisco. That way you tell the cisco that all incoming connections are routered to cable ip. Someone told me this would work but would be hard to setup.
