I bought a Cisco AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9 (refurbished) by mistake for home use without knowing that it needs an external controller.
When I looked up online I learned that Cisco provides a different firmware that can convert this into Autonomous mode (for standalone AP). But the problem is that the firmware is available only to support subscribers. Some of the solutions I read online provide even that file for download, but it may be risky to use. There is no check-sum verification or anything at Cisco website.
Now my question is:
How much is going to cost to get that support? (I don't think it is free).
Is it worth doing all that? (I can still return this device even though shipping is going to be substantial)
Edit: *NM* I can download it at work!
TIA...
