Hey all, I am in a jam of sorts. I received a Cisco 678 ADSL Modem from a person that hadn't used it in a long time. They no longer remember the password to get in. Is there a way to get around this so I can set it up and change the password?

Search Cisco's site. They have a comprehensive support knowledge base including things like that. And they do usually explain how to reset a password, since it requires physical access and it's presumed that anyone with physical access is allowed to do it.

yeah, I looked all over the section for this modem and no luck. It tells you how to set it, but not reset if you don't know it....

Got it!. I finally found info on the qwest site that if you forgot it to call in. As I am not a qwest subscriber I was afraid they would refuse to help me. Luckly they didn't ask.

When you power cycle the modem, the alarm light comes on for a sec. Hit Ctrl-C at that time. It should come up with a => prompt. type in "es 6" (Without quotes) to erase sector 6 (password info). Then when the prompt comes back up, type in "rb" to reboot the modem.

Once rebooted, you should be able to get in and redo all your settings.

Now to write it down so I don't forget...
