Cisco 831 Router

Genx87

Lifer
I bought this 831 I think 2 years ago but never used it. I just moved into a house and decided to take it out of the box and set it up. Everything seems to work just fine except the web interface. I open up IE and type in the routers ip, it asks me what language I want, and then pops up a box with an animated gif showing the router and computer talking and indicating it will take a couple of minutes to load.

8 hours later it didnt load. I tried Firefox and that at least has a java applet pop-up that says it is trying to determine the IOS and functionality of the router but still hangs.

I am curious if anybody has used this router and if they have any insights into what could be wrong? I checked Ciscos site but they dont make any mention of the web control software hanging.

Can you see anything through the console port? If not, you may be out of luck cause I'm sure that thing is out of warranty.

I havent tried as I forgot my serial connection at the old house. Ill pick it up tonight and try. The router is working fine and as intended. But the web setup program just never loads.

I've seen the newest updates to Sun Java break Cisco web interfaces. If you have it, try using the MS Java instead of Sun Java. I've had success with that in the past.

tthompson made a good point. Some of Cisco's software have embedded lines to check for certain JVM/JRE versions. Once I had to downgrade from JRE 5.0 to 1.4.2.
