I can get the Cisco 806 ? Broadband Gateway Router from CISCO for $250 because i am a Cisco student... but the question is.... is it worth it?

Do you need it? I mean you can get a regular broadband router for under $100. BTW, where are you a cisco student? In a high school?(just wondering how many high schools have these cisco and microsoft programs)
 
Well, its not a bad deal if you want something to practice the IOS with. And its a great value considering the cost of something like a 2500 series.
 
Do i need it? that depends on your classification of "need" ... i want a real router to practice my IOS commands, and it could come in handy as a broadband router too 🙂

i am taking CISCO thru a Networking Academy Certified school... haven't been in high school in.... many moons 🙂

As for if any school offers the same program, its thru the Cisco Networking Academy site. If you have access to the site, its under the CISCO Store links.

You can run the Stateful Inspection Firewall, far better to packet filtering

IPSec and QoS too if the images have been released

Seems like pretty good IOS experince to acquire
 
This is a great router to learn on. I am tempted to get it as I am working on some cisco certifications. I found a 1601 and 2501 cheap though, so I guess I dont need this one, but it could be for my cable modem too.....oh ya, i dont have any money, so my cheapo nat/router will work fine. Would be great for you though.
 
find out what you can get the pix-501 for....its a firewall so it it should give ya the best of both cisco IOS worlds routing and firewall...
its only like $450 retail but still...what defines a cisco student???
