I got my hands on a 4000 M+ router which did not have a flash chip. I purchase a 8mb flash chip and inserted into the memory bank but I get a error when i boot up. Here is my console config: It seems to recognize the module. There is a IOS image loaded already on the flash. I can't reflash the router because i can't assign a ip address also the 4000 does not support xmodem transfer. Any steps i should do, thanks. I

I am able to get the Router(boot)#prompt. Is it possible to load the IOS from here? The router does see the new flash install. Here is a sh ver. Anybody have experience with 4000 routers, thanks.

should be able to "copy tftp flash"
you'll need to set some variables like IP, interace, GW, mask, filename, tftp server, etc.

When i do the command copy tftp flash i get this:

flash address space cannot be written to.
Memory type is Flash. Chips are not identifiable

What's going on? Does anybody have suggestions, thanks spidey07 for the info.

Maybe the wrong flash. This is the second module i bought online and none of them seem to work. I want the use the router for a frame switch. Well im getting the correct module from a cisco reseller let's see how that goes, thanks again spidey07.

you can go ahead and setup your running config... then copy run flash would be the command used (if I can remember correctly) once that is done I would personally recommend backing it up to the pc that you are using to console into that router.

edit:wooo... sorry about that, I did't read farther down... Is the place where you bought the flash chip local? If so make a return and try a new stick... I've never tried to add memory to the 2501 that I have so I can't help too much. sorry
