I've got a 1700 series router that I would like to set up at home.

I currently don't have any WICs, so I'm guessing that I need to buy 2 (one for inside, one for outside).

Because our internet connection is >10mbps, I'll need Fast Ethernet.

Would 2 of these work?

Or is there a better way?

Also, can this router handle incoming VPN connections?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, this will be using a cable internet connection.

because of the 1720's bus architecture, layer 3 performance has a limitation of 10mbps when using the WIC-4ESW. the card itself is $200ish...not worth it IMO.

Another question. Cisco.com says theres a Fast Eth. port built in -- Why include Fast Eth if it can only handle up to 10mbps? Because it could still switch at 100?

the bus that connects the wic slot has a limitation of 10mbps. if you added the WIC-4ESW it could switch at 100mbps.

i dont believe the built-in fastethernet port has this limitation, although the only thing it would be routing to is low speed serial links.

K, that makes sense now. Thanks for the help.
