Circuits HW Question

"Four 1.5 V batteries supply 100 mA to a CD player. How much energy do the batteries supply in 3 h?"

1.5V * .1A = .15W * 3600s * 3 = 1.62 kJ

Is that correct, or is it 6 volts since there are four batteries?

Just guessing here but aren't batteries in electronics generally hooked up in series so I would think 6 Volts.

actually batteries aren't always hooked up in series. A remote control that uses 2 double As probably has them in parallel. So yes, the OP needs to specify.

That's the original question, this is the chapter before it starts talking about series and parallel stuff.

I'm guessing since this is a basic question, all they want to test you was whether or not you know all the units. So just take the numbers at face value so your 1.62KJ would be fine. If they then asked how much did EACH contribute, you can divide it evenly afterwards.
