I applied online today and they called me back not even two hours later. Does that mean they're desperate to hire?

How much do you get paid? I currently make $9.50 as a manager but as you all know I have to look for another job. How is Circuit City? Any good? I hope to be stationed in the computer area since that is my expertise.

They wouldn't care for a 17 y/o applying, would they?

I worked there for a lengthy portion of time. It was positive in some aspects, and negative in others. Overall, I'm not planning on ever going back despite my love for helping people and learning cool electronics. Circuit City is engaged in a serious grudge match with Best Buy right now, and the last 12 months have been an incredibly dynamic period for the company. They yeilded a large portion of their market share to BB trying to hold to an older business model, and are thus playing catch up. (at least that was the official line 6 months ago) Although CC has a strong infrastructure from a number of years of retail business, my and my fellow associates experience of the upper managment has been increasingly dissapointing. It is my view that there are a number of less-than-stellar individuals in charge over in the Richmond Corporate areas... but you'll come across that if you take the job.

One thing to note. Unless you have prior sales expereince, they will start you in a 6.50 stocking sort of role. The next step up from that in the store is 8.00/hr on the floor as a (product specialist), which basically you have a few more responsibilities in terms of percentages and product knowledge. From there you have biannual raises of up to .25, with a cap on the position of around 12 bux an hour. They expect you to go managment if you are willing to stick with the store's crap for that long.

Overall, check it out. It can be a fun place to work based on the kinds of people they try to hire.

Lastly, the discount for employees was just cut back two weeks ago. Don't expect anything better than about 20% off anymore. Often times it's even less than that. Anything CC can do to add to the bottom line... they will.

Blessings,
dav

**EDIT** I forgot to also mention that they're SERIOUS about the seasonal nature of your job. Work hard, and beat out some of the guys that are still there if you want to stick around after January. We would hire people under the clear conditions of releasing them at the end of the season, but they always seemed to gun for a spot and be dissapointed. Keep in mind you're trying to beat out someone who's known around the place. =(

I think you might have to be 18. When I applied it asked whether or not I was 18 yet.

no, there are only some positions in the store you *have* to be 18 to hold. You can still get a job there, but don't expect to be roaming the sales floor.

Actually, i had no prior sales experience and they started me in technology sales (non seasonal). However, my background may have been the difference, since i have a BA in Business Admin and i've been building computers for the past 8 years.

And on a side note, im only staying with CC until i start law school next year (for those wondering why im working at CC)

a $6.50 stocking position is a lot better than a $6.30 cashier position
