Circuit City Question

I bought a nice camera online last week ... got it this week ...

There's a small threading problem with the camera housing, but the camera works like a champ.

For $600 though, it should be PERRRFECT.

I don't want to call Sony to deal with sending it off ... nor do I want to wait like 2 weeks for the company I got it from to switch it out.

If I buy one at Circuit City, then return it there, there shouldn't be a problem, right?

I mean, no restocking fee, no dirty look ... 'cause if I get shanked on this, it's gonna hurt, retail is like $700!

I remember seeing a commercial of theres that you can return anything, no questions asked ... has anyone here done this?

TIA.

IIRC CC has a 14 day "No questions asked", "no hassle" return policy, you're right.

Just return it... otherwise that small issue will bother you as long as you own the camera.

So you didn't buy it at CC but plan on doing a swap and returning the broken one to them? Am I understanding that right?

Yep! So I'll dish out the $$$ on a CC, but then I'll get it back with the return.

I mean, they'll just send it back to Sony, and save me the hassle, right?

Let's try again.

I bought a nice camera online last from, let's say ... Joe's Cameras last week ... got it this week ...

I'd like to buy one at Circuit City. 1 cam + 1 cam = 2 cams. Swap out the cams. Then return the bad one and get a full refund, so I'd be back down to 1 cam, but without the problem.

Define scamming ... I'm SCAMMING no one ... I'm going to tell them it's screwy ... they'll send it to Sony ... and won't miss it while it's gone, like I will.

And you'd be ripping CC out of a camera which works... you realize they lose money because they can't re-sell that as new.

Lame. :disgust:

thought I'm not condoning this...I did once buy a D-Link Wireless Router from Amazon, and used it for a wired router for a few months before going wireless. THe wireless didn;t work, and it was beyond Amazon's RMA time. I didn;t want to wait for a D-Link warranty service, so I bought the exact wireless router at a local branch of a national office store. Waited a couple of days, then switched out the new router (after making sure the new one worked) for the old broken one, and took it ack to the store. THey took it back no questions asked. I got a newer router that worked, and still works great to this day.

Well then if its not "scamming" then just tell CC what you plan on doing? I'm sure they will think its A-OK

The whole point is. I'm not ripping anyone off or scamming CC.

IF the camera is faulty, which it is ... CC will send it back to Sony, and will get a new one. CC doesn't have to fix it, nor do they have to put a refurbished sticker on it ... it's just gonna goooo back to Sony land, then a new one will show up ... sometime ...

The serial numbers on the camera and packaging have to match. The barcode on the one you return to CC may not match what their stock numbers should be. What are you going to say to them if that happens?

This is the kind of thing I'm asking. My box has some type of sticker that is ripped off. I'm wondering if this is where there would be an identifying number.

I would open the new box, then put the other camera in the CC box. I'm not going to try to bring back the one I got in the mail. I'll have 2 sets of everything, and it will be easier to just put the other cam in the new box.

You DO know you can get banned for asking this, right?

When you buy ANYTHING from a store, a return policy states they will buy it back from you within a period defined by their policy. You are obligated to return the EXACT item you purchased. Pulling a switch is fraudulent, and if you're caught you can be subject to prosecution. :|

Admission of guilt on a PUBLIC forum is just plain stupid!

Blieb, you have no idea how CC works, do you? I used to work with CC (quit two months ago), FYI CC wont send the Camera back to Sony. It will go to a return center and they will assess the damage there. IF it repairable, it will be fixed but money will come out from CC's fund. Whatever it is, CC will lose money because of your action. Furthermore, if i'm not mistaken for digicam, camcorder, high-end PDA and computer we have to scan the product serial number on the box, NOT UPC but the serial number.

stop scamming, just send it to sony or deal with the company you bought it from. Dont like your online purchasing experience then buy retail.

I didn't know I could get banned for the q :( ...

Guilt is post-action. I haven't done anything at this time.

I did this with a 9700pro and they didn't even open the box to see what card was in it. I "could" have put anything in the box but I didn't. I even made sure the barcodes and serials all matched what I was returning. BTW. Did they write the serial # on the receipt at all? That would make things difficult for you.

Sony (and many manufacturers) wont credit the retailer if serial numbers don't match....more so for high end items. Better idea is to return your old camera in the old box. That way you'll have no problems with the serial number. Is it unethical, certainly. But I don't think its as bad as, for example, returning network cards in the boxes for Radeon 9800 pros.

For lower cost items like printers, routers, etc. the swapping process doesn't matter. In fact, it is often encouraged by the management if you have lost your original box.

I think they extended it from 14 days to 30 days had to return something the other day went very smooth no questions asked.
