Circuit City question - regarding PMs

Can anyone tell me if they require the physical credit card to do a credit for a PM on an online order at Circuit City?

I want to buy something but know I will need to PM it next week, but I don't live near a CC. I have a friend that will take the paperwork to CC for me and request the PM, but I'm worried they may want the physical card to credit it back. I've seen stores do it off electronic records and others that require the card.

Anyone have experience with this?
 
they shouldn't need the card, as it should just be able to credit the difference back to the card without any need for the card being present.

I called once before asking about a phone PM, and CC policy is it must be instore.

I guess I can call and concoct a story of some sort and find out.
