I purchased an open box laptop from circuit city a couple weeks ago for 650$, the PCMCIA Slot died on me, so i returned it because it was the last one and they didnt have anyother one or anythin comprable to give me. The laptop was a great deal, it would have cost me 1200$ to order from HP directly. Today I stoped by another store which had the same exact model for 950$ they refused to pricematch it and said that they have no idea why the other store sold it for so cheap bla bla bla, I really want this laptop and would love to get it for the same price or somethin more reasonable, it just dosent make sense to me to pay 300$ more for the exact same model in the same condition several weeks later. Im thinking about calling corporate on monday so see if they can do anything for me.

edit: when they looked it up in the computer they said it comes up for 599$ now. (at the 2nd store)

edit 2: both laptops are open box

I doubt they're going to knock 300 bucks off of a laptop just because you bought one at another store for that much.

I also doubt the OP told the other store it was a open box either

Well.. most stores won't price match on an open-box item anyway. Open boxes are always worth less; and if they price match... you'd be getting a new one.

If It were my store I would not pricematch that.

Although.. you didn't say if the one for $950 was new or open-box, I just assumed it was new.

You're not making any sense. Who said it's coming up for 599 now? The original store? The 2nd store? Corporate?

Both open box? Still a bit questionable.

two new items are identical (same packaging, contents, materials, warranty, whatever) but open boxes might not be. Some might be missing a cable or a manual or maybe even a warranty. Open box buys are cheap for a reason... primarily uncertainty of what your getting when compared to new-in-box.

they claim everythin open box still has a factory warranty and what can come with a laptop that would warrant the 300$ price difference?

Former CC employee here.

You will not get the new laptop for the same price. Each store prices on OB items are different. They make come with different accessories, or are missing certain items. Some may not have the right battery or a refurbished battery. One of the laptops may have been sent to a service center to have something fixed on it. One store may simply have a larger inventory of OB items they need to get rid of, thus are desperate to sell any OB's they have.

Bottom line, you will not be able to get the one store to sell it for $300 less. Suck it up and buy something else.

Oh, and as for the warranty... you may want to check on that. As far as I understand it from most manucaturers the manufacturer warranty starts on the day IT WAS FIRST SOLD. Not the day you bought it. Therefore, if it is a 3 month old laptop that someone bought 3 months ago and you just bought it you may only be getting a 9 month limited warranty on it, IF that.

Ive even heard some manufacturers start their warranty on the day it is sold to the retailer? Not sure exactly how they check that, just something Ive heard before.

Serial #'s.

When the product was originally purchased a serial # was put into the system. Thats how they also track rebates. So if I buy a laptop with serial # 872 then that info goes to HP, the warranty clock starts ticking. If they get a request for work to be done on that laptop they will ask you for the serial # on it. Its on the bottom usually.

*edit*

Oh, the manufacturer doesn't really care about a circuit city sales receipt. And the warranty is through the manufacturer, not CC. However, CC does now do some in store warranty work for HP/Compaq computers. Hp/compaq overnight them parts if need be and reimburse CC for that. However that is something new and may not be available all over the country.

What area are you in?

CC's pricematch policy:

If you've seen a lower advertised price from another local store with the same item in stock, we want to know about it. Bring it to our attention, and we'll gladly beat their price by 10% of the difference. If you see a lower advertised price (including our own sale prices) within 30 days of your purchase, we'll refund 110% of the difference.

Our policy applies only to advertised prices. It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers and special financing. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide price matches online, so please visit the closest Circuit City store to take advantage of our Price Guarantee.

The price you got was not advertised, was it?

I got it from their website. http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/lookLearn.do?cat=-13318&edOid=105471&c=1

I don't see what good it'll do to show it to them, they'll just point out that they only pricematch to advertised prices.

price matching is usually so if 2 companies are selling the same product but for different prices they can fight for the consumers dollar

if one company doesn't sell the product any more and another company does, what the hell is the reason for matching the price?
