Just so you know.

Shouldn't affect normal people. Only those who want free laptop rental for the weekend and those who are too stupid to read a digital cameras manual to get familiar with it.

Best Buy does it, so hey.....

Yep, started yesterday. Of course, if you bought something before this took effect, you can still return whatever it is without a fee.

So this just means you get charged the fee if you return something because you "didn't like it." Right?

Damn right, I say. You have no idea how much stuff gets returned to us at where I work that has nothing wrong with it, and the (l)user is just too lazy to RTFM.
Makes my job a lot more difficult- I'm supposed to be repairing machines, not re-wrapping and pricing returned stock items.

Well look at it this way at least you can return it. If you buy a computer, printer, digital camera from Comp USA, you can't return it for a refund, you can only exchange it if it is defective. No if ands or buts.

Also, this only applies to technology.

Computers, cell phones, digital cameras, pdas, etc.

Unfortunately does not apply to big screens, a common open box item.

That's why you go to Costco, no return time limit and 6 months on computers/notebook.

This is such a stupid idea. There are so many idiots that'll destroy the prodcuts before returning them just to get out of paying a restocking fee.

Uhm, only defective items arent subject to the restocking fee, not destroyed items.

if anything should have 0 restocking fee it should be computer components because there can be compatability problems. just because 2 things are suppose to work together doesn't mean they always will.

Good.

Buying and returning digital camcorders and cameras was incredibly rampant at the Best Buy I worked at last year. Those losses were, of course, being passed on to the consumer. This should at least make people think twice about "renting" a camera for a week or two.

Take a stun gun to a digital camera and tell me it's not borked.

I don't condone it but he's right, people will break it now.

By destroyed I mean the person will do something to make the item defective. AKA video card that they don't want, let's rub it across the carpet and all of our sweaters or whatnot so we can return it without having to pay a restocking fee.
