Circuit City has done me wrong :(

Real fast summary
Car: 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis.
They had a sale on the DEI 881XP so I jumped on it and purchased it. Included free installation with the price I paid for it. Turns out they charged around 2-300 for the alarm and about 120+ for the installation. Not a problem I suppose (at least I thought)

Brought my car in 5 times already.
First time, they sold me the wrong bypass for the remote start. Had to go to best buy and buy it from there and bring it back for them to install it.
Second time, repeated clicking noise. Turns out they didn't ground the trunk relay properly.
Third time, still clicking and it turns out it's the relay they installed so I had to get a mercury switch from best buy in order to remove the trunk relay
Fourth time, brought the car back in to get the mercury switch installed.

Tomorrow will be the 5th time. The sensitivity of the alarm is really low (I can pound on the body and the windows and it doesn't set off the alarm or warn (chirp ) )
Also it looks like theres no sensor installed for the hood. I armed the alarm and I was able to lift up the hood completely without the alarm going off. On sounddomain, someone said that the alarm was supposed to have a hood pin with it.

But my main complaint is the god damn clicking noise. It's real subtle (different from the first time). It sounds similar to when you press the power switch on a computer. The clicking noise the switch itself makes. When driving, it just keeps happening randomly. Sometimes when I hit a bump, sometimes when I'm braking. But it's continuous and oh my god so freaking annoying.

I called up Circuit City and asked them about the return policy and they told me it's 30 days but I won't be refunded the install fee. I asked her what if the reason I'm returning it is it's CC's fault because of a faulty install. She asked me how is it Circuit City's fault. I then gave her a real quick summary of how CC has pissed me off and wasted 10-15 hours of my time. She then told me I'll have to talk to a Manager when I come in.

I really want the alarm to work but the clicking is unbearable. It did not click before they worked on it and now it is. I purchased the alarm on 7-4-05 which means I have to return it by 8-03-05.

It was paid for by Circuit City credit (0% interest until January 2007)

You wasteed your money on sh!t you don't need and complain about it. Really, you expect any of those items to grow in value?

a car doesn't need to grow in value for him to protect his investment.

there's probably some lemon law that has you covered for their horrendous install. next time, find some guys who do car audio/alarm installs as a specialty. for now, if you can sweet talk/leverage the manager the right way, they'll refund everything, or you might be able to get them to pay the difference for you to get it installed by experienced people.

Thanks for the advice. I do plan on being calm when I talk to the manager tomorrow. Hopefully he'll be understanding.

Shut up you arogant ATOT ass. How do you know if he "needs" it or not? Atleast he can remember his nick over a period of 3 months, noob.

How is spending $300 a poor investment when he's protecting an $8000 car? If the OP had said he bought a set of 22" spinning rims, THEN i could justify that maybe he didn't need it, but there's nothing wrong with having an alarm installed. That's like saying you should not have doorknobs or deadbolts installed on your house. We all know it's not going to grow in value.

Any suggestions on how I should handle this today? I'm taking the car in to have him adjust the sensitivity and find out the source of the clicking. My greatest fear is that I'll return everything and have them take everything out and it'll still keep clicking. It is definitely something they did though because it did not make this noise before I gave them the car to work on.

Here is what to do in the future. On the second trip to CC after the first install was faulty, have them fix the install. Keep the car in that bay until you are 100% satisfied with everything. Refuse everything if it does not work prooperly. Makes life a whole lot easier.

I had someone screw up an oil change and now anytime something gets done to the car I do not pay/sign off on the work until it gets checked over.

Well I dropped the car off and the guy says he drove it around and can't hear the clicking. I told him he's just not listening and it is there since my wife and 2 of my coworkers have heard it as well. He said he'll take it out again and see if he can hear it.

Bitch until they take it out and give you a full refund. Go to a real installer. CC sucks and BBY is sketchy for that stuff. The guys who work @ the install bay @ my BBY are competent, so if you're in Raleigh come by 😉

I probably will do that if they don't fix it but I'm afraid that after taking it all out, the clicking noise will still be happening. Raleigh is a tad too far to drive 🙂 I'm up here in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Yeah the sales person lied to me (surprise surprise!)

BTW, regarding the free install:
I know with BBY on the tags the installation is worked into the price. But for their install bay to get credit for the work, they have to take the install fee out of the item price, add on a separate labor charge, and then its all even again. In fact it saves money in NC: no tax on labor and the lab is like $150-$200 🙂
