I woke up this morning craving cereal, but I thought all we had left was a bit of golden grahams. However, to my surprise, my parents had bought cinnamon toast crunch the night before. I noticed though, that it had 75% less sugar, and then saw the splenda label near the bottom right of the package.

I must say, its not bad at all. Has only 2g of sugar per serving, but yet with just a tiny aftertaste, you still get much of the same experience that original cinnamon toast crunch offers.

I'll have to check out CTC the next time I'm at the grocery store. I love it, but have been trying to avoid the cereals loaded with sugar. With only 2g because of Splenda, I'll be having some CTC this weekend. ;)

You guys should really compare the lables on the cereal. I haven't read them, but I am assumming that instead of sugar, they have substituted splenda+extra carbs. For instance, they might have replaces teh sugar with splena+starch. When your body digests the starch, it converts it to sugar anyways, so there probably isn't much of a point buying the low-sugar kind....

EDIT: buyer beware!
OK, just looked at general mills website.
Serving size is 3/4 of a cup.
Regular CTC has 130 calories per serving, 24g carb(1g fiber, 10g of sugar, 13g other carbs).
Reduced CTC has 120 calories per serving, 24g carb(2g fiber, 2g sugar, 20g other carbs)

So in essence, the "reduced sugar" has 75% less sugar, but only 10 less calories per seving(8%)?????

Cliff Notes: Reduced sugar cereals are a gimmick to make you feel better about eating cereal, with little to no benefits.

Ugh, splenda's in everything right now. Juice, cereal, pudding..everything.

I personally don't trust any artificial sweetener. I've yet to see a fat person get skinny by drinking/eating diet stuff before that was artificially sweetened. It's just a huge marketing ploy, and I really doubt that a whole bunch of it in your body could be good for you.

Yeah, I'll have to check it out. I just bought a box of Peanut Butter Toast Crunch a few days ago, though. Wonder if they have a Splenda-ized version of that.

Well that's certainly conclusive evidence.

Also, aspartame has been around for decades. There's no health organization in the world that has ever banned it for any reason for any health risks it may provide, because there are none. There has never been any *credible* evidence or research done that shows that there's ever been any adverse affects from it, period.

It's generally that fat people think they can order another big mac because they're drinking a diet coke, rather than just reducing their sugar levels with a diet drink..

buyer beware? wtf, is this cereal dangerous now?

But yeah, I admit that is pretth bad. at least it has another gram of fiber.

And cjchaps - it wasn't my idea to buy it..I just eat what is here, and usually don't care what it is. I prefer regular cinnamon life.
