cingular wireless in PA

Lifer
does anyone from PA have the basic 450 minutes/month plan through cingular?
just the base plan and nothing extra added onto it?

i'm trying to figure out how much it is going to cost me with tax and whatever fees they add to the bill.

i called cingular and they were unable to give me that info...not sure why, but whatever...

here's my dilemma...
go with www.consumercellular.com (uses cingular towers) who offers a plan for $30 per month. you get 400 minutes per month, no contract, no rollover, no night and weekend minutes, and has a really crappy choice of phones. the phone i would be getting is the motorola v551.

or the other option...

go directly with cingular's plan for $39.99. you get 450 minutes per month, rollover minutes, large choice of phones (i can get one i actually feel good about buying), 5000 weekend and night minutes, but a 2 year contract.

bold text is the pro's of the 2.

When I was on the 450 plan it was 39.99 per month. When you figured in taxes, it came to just under $48. This was for me in KY. I would imagine that it would be similar for you. If in doubt, do you have a Wal-Mart that carries Cingular phones? If so, go in and ask them about the plans. It seems to be a lot easier than trying to get in to an actual Cingular store. The one here in my town is horrible.

The 2 year contract will only affect how much he will pay for his phone. The plan won't be affected by that and all of the benefits(rollover, 5000 nights/weekend minutes) should be the same. I got my V551 phone for about $130 with a one year contract. The two year contract would have made the phone quite a bit cheaper but the extra year under contract wasn't worth the money to me....especially if I had trouble and wanted to cancel the service.

The V551 is a pretty good phone IMO... For Cingular, rollover minutes are great, I think it comes down to whether you want to sign that 2-year contract... Where do you see yourself in a few years?

how did you get a 1 year contract? all i see and all i am told is that they only have 2 year contracts.

Cingular's customer svc sucks, and I mean hard. I'd go with the other company for that reason, and to avoid the committment.

Well, I was already signed up for their service. I bought my phone through Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart offered a 1 year or 2 year plan. I took the 1 year. I think you should be able to specify that you want a 1 year or 2 year plan even at the Cingular offices. You'll pay more for the phone with a 1 year contract but if you want to stay under contract for the least amount of time then that's the way to do it.

nope, already asked, they only offer 2 year plans.

I have the plan you're talking about and I happen to live in PA as well. I like it, but I think I will be switching to Verizon at the end of my contract with Cingular. Cingular does have a nice choice of phones, but for having "the largest network", I disagree. In most places in PA, my service is so-so, unless I get out in to open areas. Forget calling from inside of a building (except for a house). Otherwise, I've been pretty happy with Cingualr overall. Before you decide, I would take a look at some other carriers.

I live in PA, have Verizon but i think ill switch to Cingular. I get barely any reception in my house which is the most important thing for me. However where i get perfect reception at work another guy in the office who has Cingular gets none.

i have verizon now and at home i get no signal. my parents have the consumer cellular and my sister has cingular and they get good signal at my house.

i don't think anyone's phone works here where i work. its just a bad area for reception.
