Cingular vs Verizon in MD

I presently have Verizon Service in MD. I am considering switching over to Cingular for better rates and rollover minutes.
I had peviously used Cingular but reception was bad in this area.

Does anyone know how the reception is now that they have switched over to GSM? Is it any better?

Thanks,
mdcrab

I'm near Bel Air.

I am actually looking for a plan for my teenager. Wish I could find a regular (not pre-paid) that automatically shutoff when the regular minutes are reached each month. None of the providers off couse will do that because they like the high cost additional minutes.

Well, I don't live in MD, but the Cingular service sucks in NYC. The reception is much better than my sister's ATT (TDMA) V60 setup, but it's crazy how much network busy signals I get. Basically, when it hits 9pm, I can't take advantage of my 5000 N&W minutes because no calls can come in or go out. It takes about 10 calls before it works.

Rollover is nice since I've built so much that I won't have to worry about going over my minutes (it came with free 500 rollover), but that's the thing about rollover! The only people who will have rollover are the people who don't max their minutes. But these people will never utilize their rollover as it expires in a year. Those who max out their minutes every month have little to no rollover. Only those who talk sporadically over the year will benefit.

It also doesn't come with any free data service that I hear T-Mobile now offers (?) and I can't use my cell as a wireless modem because they don't offer free CSD service. I'm cancelling my service once my 1 year contract expires.

I had Cingular for 2 years and just recently switched to Verizon. The coverage with Verizon is MUCH better for me. I couldn't even get Cingular in my building unless I was standing at a window and it used to drop out in the car when I was driving in low-lying areas. The other problem was the plan we had didn't cover long distance or areas outside of the east coast. Not good for traveling.

No issues like that with verizon. So far I have no complaints with Verizon except for the fact that my phone doesn't work well in some stores where other phones do work.

Verizon is definitely more expensive but after trying T-mobile for a week (SUCKED) we ended up going with Verizon.

Thanks for the inputs ghostman and MustISO.

You have confirmed what I suspected. Hopefully the lower Cingular rates may cause Verizon to be more competitive in the future.

Verizon is the best when is comes to coverage, but there will be some places where the coverage isn't that great. If you don't use all the minutes this month then you won't next month. Rollover minutes are a joke and there are a couple of restrictions with them.

You can always change your price plan with verizon and it doesn't cost a thing. It will only extend your contract if you change different plans not if you change the amount of minutes in the plan.
