I'm a subscriber to Cingular, in case you didn't gather that from the topic title. Well last month I recieved my bill, and it was loaded with almost 80 usage charges (not calls). I took a look at the bill and there were a few text messages (20-30, combined incoming/outgoing) and 50 other mystery charges. I believe the description was something like "WIRELESSWEB" OR "DATATRANSFER". Naturally, I called up Cingular and aksed what was going on. They said that it was something I was doing, not my phone. I figured they we're probably right, maybe I just hit the wireless internet button on accident or something. Fast forward... April's bill comes in and what do you know? I still have around 50 mystery charges. I called up Cingular again, and they still told me that there was nothing that they could do, and that it was my fault. The annoying part is, I haven't touched the wireless internet button in over 4 months. I've sent text messages and placed/recieved calls. That's it. I can't explain what is going on, and it's driving me nuts. Right now I'm in a stalemate with Cingular, and I'm not sure what to do. This wouldn't bother so much if the charges were small, like $5. However, the total for these usage charges and text messages comes to around $30.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on? I tried to reset my phone but I don't have a PIN code, and I tried to disable some features, but neither of those things have worked.

Ask them how you can disable that feature on yoru account because obviosuly it's not working properly. THen just refuse to pay the bill if they give you more trouble.

Tell them to disable internet totally on your phone, since it seems you do not use it. That or you can pay $20 a month for unlimited...

Edit: doh beaten to the post

Cingular's data plans are sooooo insanely expensive, it's unbelieveable. That's why I love sprint. I've gotten FREE data for my entire 3 years with them, and have now been grandfathered into free EVDO.

I had the same thing happen to me and I had to pay around $110 for one month and around $40 the next. I kept calling them and disputed the charge and they opened a case but they said that it was my fault. finally I paid them and cancelled my wireless web service

You do realize if you don't have a data or text plan you pay for every single incoming and outgoing message. Just get a text plan if are using that. No need to pay out the nose if you can get on a plan for cheap.

Edit: Also if you are not set up for data, you will not have data services available. My wife doesn't have it on her phone. It just tells her that, there is no charge incurred as it's not connecting to anything.
