I guess this is the closest we'll get to seeing John McCain roll over in his grave. #Walkaway Cindy, walk away.

Something I've wondered about current polling--if Donald Trump really has a 94% approval rating with Republicans, is the pool of people identifying as 'Republicans' getting smaller?

I for one know quite a few people who voted Republican for over 30 + years! They also claim that they changed to being a Democrat because the present Republican party is not the same Republican party they had voted ror in past elections!
Something changed for the worse...….

They stopped trying to hide their corruption. That's the only thing that has changed.

You could say the same for the Democrats not being the same party after they've abandoned the flyover states working class in favor of knowledge workers in urban areas and hispanics (legal or not) who are displacing those "deplorable" types.

Yup, you voters essentially sidelined the Democrats enough over the past 40 years that the labor unions fell. Clearly a sign that Democrats abandoned them.

Honestly, very little has changed in the GOP since Reagan took over. That was the devil's deal that they made when choosing Reagan over HW (the last living conservative in the US) in 1979, forever torpedoing the party.

we're going to redefine the party based on belief-based "morals" because those voters have long-established their highly malleable moral centers. Convince them that their money is best spent on the fabulously wealthy, that will someday allow them to become equally wealthy....on the backs of decimating their own pension plans, their own decades-long honest pay, and necessary, extremely popular public services. We're going to call all that stuff that they love "socialism," call it "theft," and that their "prosperous god" wants the GOP to reshape the country in this image.

These are the very same voters. They have been gaslit thoroughly and successfully because when you replace your base with a central power of belief-based fundies, they are forever easy to manipulate along the lines of fear and eternal damnation.

Nah. They voted for Reagan, and Reagan rewarded them by dismantling their unions, torpedoing their pensions, and closing all of the free clinics and mental healthcare institutes that would have served them well in all this time. He told them that providing resources to train and find new jobs for the jobs that he is selling overseas would be communism and they are better off eating mud if they can't figure it out.

They bought into the golden calf and the calf rewarded them with generational misery.

Sorry, Cindy, it absolutely is, and you and your husband are a part of the reason why it is the way it is these days. I've noticed there's been an attempt to change tone about McCain. They ditched all his "Maverick" bullshit (after it was looking a lot like the fake tough guy act of people like Turmp and that creep that preyed on underage girls in Alabama, among others) and have been trying to paint him as some great mediator that tried to work across party lines. His voting and campaign record proves what a complete, total, and utter sham that is.

This is an attempt to rewrite history and absolve themselves of blame for the situation we're in. Unfortunately it'll probably work since it worked while he was still alive.

Party affiliation hasn't moved in years for either party. some slight movements up and down but nothing that has ever held.

JFK said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." To today's Democrats: "We need reparations, free health care, free college, basic income, and a safe place." Also, "Let's spit on cops today!"

No one will miss Cindy.

That's the danger I don't think the Trump drones get. Yeah, most Republicans love Trump, but it's not clear that the number of identified Republicans is the same as it was a few years ago, let alone that it's growing proportionately. You know how people sound alarm bells about the GOP being the party of white straight Christian men (the older the better)? Yeah, there's a real possibility that Trump and the Republicans will face stiffer odds simply because they've alienated groups that are growing larger and can't easily be ignored.
