Geeks.com has the Cigarette Lighter Panel w/Cup Holder for 5.25-Inch Drive Bay for $9.95.
--This 5.25" panel makes it easy for smokers to light up when computing (and for others to charge up).
--4-pin fused Molex power connector
--Use the cigarette lighter to light up a cigarette

It would be funny if it looked like a CDROM drive on the outside, to mirror that old joke.

Link it please?

I bought this for $5 shipped during that free shipping/Green Light sale a few weeks ago. It seems to work as advertised.

If you're using it for a ciggarette lighter... not much.

If you're trying to hook up car accessories to it... you're retarded and your computer will hopefully catch fire and burn you and your house to ashes so that the rest of the world doesn't have to worry about your lack of common sense.

It's just not impressive enough.

I want one where there's an optical 800 dpi laser cordless 2.4Ghz sensor and panaflo fan that senses when the cigarette is inserted, lights it, and smokes it.

Beverage holder needs SLI'd peltiers, water-cooled (via a Zalman Reserator of course) to chill the built-in beer tap, and a breathalyzer that tells me if it's safe to play NFS4.

I almost forgot- must have scratch-resistant polycarbonate lense over a CCFL, for no purpose whatsoever.

A lot. It's a dead short. And that's only the beginning. Cigarette smoke shortens the life of your computer. Gums up the fans, gets in the hard drive, and renders parts unfit for sale on FS&T.

Not quite a dead short, the whole reason it heats up is that it's a resistive element inside plus the fuse on one is typically <= 10A so it's definitely a fair margin under that. However, since they are supplying the socket they could current-limit it even more, it would simply take longer to get hot compared to being powered off a SLA battery as it normally would.

That's right. Wait a few minutes until the Green Light sale starts. This thing might be 5.99. It has been before if I remember correctly.

lol - this has been around the block a few times. Every time I see it on the forums I think about buying one even though I quit smoking many years ago. If I bought one I might want to try it out. Then I might want to show my friends and have them test it out and, of course, be sociable and have one with them.....and just like that I'll be smoking again.
No thanks.

Mods please lock! For my sake!

Screw the monitor. Plug the computer into the inverter and you draw power from your own power supply to supply power to your computer.

HAHAHA...

I would love to see someone get a couple of POS computers and try hooking one up to another via this panel and an inverter.

Hypothesis 1: Nothing happens.
Hypothesis 2: Attempted draw is so high that it immediately fries the PSU of the computer hooked to the wall.

As silly as it would be to do it, it is theoretically possible if one deliberately tried to make it work.

Supposing an all-integrated box using 100W, on a 80% PSU, on a 75% efficient inverter, 157W or about 14A of 12V. If you took the 12V direct from the other system instead of re(re)converting it then the loss may be cut, closer to 10A.

You certainly couldn't plug it in while the system was running but on an overspec'd beefy PSU with it hooked up before power-on...

While I don't smoke I think this is the kind of mod that may make me consider to start something new. Sound like a good idea to you huys?

I like the idea of a cup holder. That would sell. Maybe we should replace the cigarette lighter with a very small extension ladder and uPVC guttering.

Well, I'm down for one if I can catch the green light special.

Somebody hook me up with a link for ashtray to fit in a 5.25 bay too
