Church needs a computer...get something donated? Buy new?

I help out at a church across the street from my house and they are in need of a "new" computer.
Iwas thinking since they are a non-profit that someone would be able to get a nice tax write-off on a 1 year old computer that is worth very little on the real market by donating it, and then swapping in a new HD.

There is a lady there who is a controlfreak and has the checkbook to buy the church technology stuff and I have been tyrying to convince here that this route would still yield a stable computer that could run programs.

Ideas? Think we would be better off going to the store and buying new? They need something by Tuesday.

P.S If you are in MA and have a computer you could donate let me know.
 
Grab the next hot Dell Dimension 3000 deal. I got one without monitor for $250 plus tax for my dad and it works great.
 
I'm in MA, and I have connections within my school's tech dept, e.g. stuff getting tossed or waiting to be.

What kind of specs do you need? I won't be able to get anything super-fast, or fast at all, but if you just need functionality it'll be fine.

Hopefully a 1ghz+ CPU...just need the tower...i'm doubting someone will be able to provide this, but worth a shot.
It is going to be used for office/adminstrative work.
 
On a side note. How much would I expect to pay for something with:
1Ghz or greater CPU
256 mb of ram (128 if it is in a single stick)
CLEAN and functioning well from a physical aspect ?

Used or new
