Chrusciki (angel wings) like Grandma used to make! Polish dessert -- I love Long Island!

I haven't had these in years, probably about 4 years since my Mom made them last. They are bits of thin, fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar. It may not sound like much, but they are awesome and extremely addictive. I went to Riverhead, Long Island today, which is apparently an enclave for Poles, particularly recent immigrants. I found the angel wings in a shop along with Okocim beer (brewed in Warsaw).

<---fat and happy right now

My family's polish and that name sounds vaguely familiar. I just asked my mom to make some tomorrow. :)

They are very labor intensive -- it's always an all day affair from what I remember (to make a large batch). If your Mom makes them, she really loves you. ;)

I looked for a picture and couldn't find one either. Mine are in my stomach right now. Think of a large bow tie with an open center, and the middle sides (bordering open center) are twisted. Covered in powdered sugar.

I know what you mean. I would kill for a bowl of minestrone soup, ravioli or fried bread my (now dead) grandmother made. No one ever bothered to watch her cook and learn the recipies and they're now gone forever. :( She was such a kickass cook.
