Yea, so the ATSF effect hit me, and I picked up the game with a giftcard today. Anyways, installed the game...seems ok.

But, WTF is up with the slughish performance?

My specs:

Athlon 64 3500+
1GB Corsair PC3200
eVGA 6800 Ultra

I mean, I looked for a patch and didnt notice anything out there. I was running the game at 1280x1024, but because of the slow FPS, I've dropped it down to 1024x768, disabled shadows, turned of ansio completey, and turned the texture details down to 1 from the maximum.

Is this just how the game is? :(

Sluggish performance? The game ran very smoothly on my machine at 1152x864 everything on high. What exactly is the fps you're getting? The game looks and runs like the Doom 3 engine, so the logical question to ask would be: how well could you run Doom 3?

In the video section don't do the 2++ option. I forget what the exact name is as I'm not near my PC ATM, but its something like 2++. Anyways, that just kills performance.

Well, I have a 6800 GT and A64 3200 with 1GB RAM and it was so bad I couldn't even get past the intro videos!

You may think I am exaggerating but I assure you it is the truth. I went to 2 and everything was great.

Nice! Thanks for the advice, because it worked!

The game runs super-smooth and is now so fun! Wow, what a great looking game. :)

Cheers!

It aint HL2 IMHO, but its got create character development, good voice acting, and you'll be surprised by the GFX and animation. Deffinitly worth $30 :)

I've heard great things about Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher's Bay: Developer's cut (Gamespot, these forums). Are these different? Or is it the only version that's been released? I was looking to purchase it online earlier, but got confused with the nomenclature.

Thx,
Josh

Edit: I see. GoGamer lists it without the "Developer's Cut" suffix, and nowhere is it mentioned explicitly within the description. However, the packaging picture shows "Developer's Cut", and the description mentions "Developer's Commentary". Mystery solved.

yep, it's the 2++ option . . . . you might try it again when you get your second 6800 (for sli). ;)

I played it on the xbox and it was a great game. I have not had the chance to play it on PC yet because my system cannot handle it.

Of course it does, IIRC the 2++ implemented some stuff that is only available to the 6 series geforce cards. Id have to check on it again but im pretty sure.

My VSync is on. That could be what's making my 9800pro sluggish.

Superb looking game. So far it's like a cross between Far Cry and D3, with loads more CHARACTER.

It is a great game. Unfortunately, it is super short. Maybe 1/4 as long as Farcry.

about 1/2, i thought. ;)
FC seemed much longer only 'cause it is much harder w/"checkpoint-only" crap saves :p

[and 'Riddick' has everything FC lacks - GREAT voice acting and cutscenes and a good plot and story . . . . gfx are about equivalent - FC is "outdoors", Riddick is "indoors"]

anyway . . . . there is a "developer's commentary" that might take 3 months to get through. :p

I got depressed when operating in the prison environment. I uninstalled it after about 3 hours of play.

it is a "mature" game with more cursing than i have ever heard in a video game . . . . you might actually "feel" you are in prison . . . it's pretty intense and immersive.

if it was a movie, it's be a very heavy "R" for violence and language .. . . it';s actually quite graphic in stalking and breaking your enemy's necks "close up".

That said - OF IT"S TYPE (fps 'shooter' w/many elements of other genres) - it is an AWEsome game. ;)

:thumbsup::thumbsup:
