Yup, I was reading through that thread myself. I figured it would be something I'd snag after Christmas.

i believe Gamespot gave it a 9.3 . . . it's a "sleeper".

BTW, i do NOT like Vin Diesel or the Chronicles movies (Pitch Black was "fair") BUT this game is AWESOME . . . much better then the movies . . . . there is 100% "immersion" . . . . they did not reinvent the FPS but do things VERY differently that makes it much better then the "usual" . . . . an excellent blend of horroy, stealth and fighting (including hand-to-hand)

Please note is is "M" (NOT for children) and quite "adult" (lots of the 'F' word). 😉

I thought Far Cry was going to be at least Sleeper of the Year, especially with the huge and beautiful environments. Wow, this sounds like a great game, but I'm often not too fond on H2H combat in FPS's.

The H2H combat is limited . . . . just like everything else . . . . UNLIKE Doom iii which is repetitive, predictable and boring . . .. you get a taste of everything (including the in-your-face- horror and gore) but not so much that it gets banal.

You actually get the feeling that you ARE riddick . . . .quite an acomplishment for any game 😉

And the M rating . . . . that's a head-up for . . . . your kids. 😛

(j/k'ing . . . . just a PSA for anyone that might be interested - it is an ADULT game).

BTW, this was first released for the Xbox - but is NOT a crappy port; in fact they added a level just for the PC (you get a mech suit for a "rambolike blast thru the enemies) and the GFX are MUCH improved for the PC (BTW it is demanding - my P4 @3.31 Ghz/ Radeon 9800xt and 1GB PC3500 can do "only" 10x7 with all details & shadows "on" and "hi" and "max" with NO aa/af but great gfx and decent FPS).

You also get to find certain "objects" that unlock game art and trailers and 'the making of' riddick . . . . quite nice!

My understanding was that the DVD version was only released in Europe? I've only seen the CD version at stores here anyways.

But I'll echo that it is a very good game. It runs not so good on my system (Athlon XP 2800 w/ GF4 4200), but it's playable and fun none the less.

You do go for fairly long stretches without a gun, but that's where the stealth elements come into play.

I'd say HL2 was a better game overall, but that's not to take anything away from this game. HL2, Farcry, and this were certainly my 3 favorites of this year.
