Date night with the old lady. Gonna catch a flick But can't decide. If I ask her she'll just shrug so I gotta decide.

Opinions?

I have not seen The Woman in Black yet, but I liked Chronicle, so I'd pick that:

Chronicle - 7.5/10: Surprisingly cool superhero origin movie, or at least two-thirds of a surprisingly cool superhero origin movie. The whole discovery of the object and their powers is awesome and pretty believable as the three friends deal with the discoveries and how they keep getting stronger. Unfortunately it kind of goes off the rails near the end. Most of the acting is fine, nothing too brutal, and while the effects are not perfect, I found most of them to be decent. I'm not sure they needed to do this as a found footage film; it seems there are just too many scenes where they have to establish why the camera is running and not only does that style crumble a bit in the last act, it just seemed unnecessary; I'd rather they would have just shot it traditionally. All that said, I liked it far more than I expected I would.

I liked the Chronicle as well and personally can't stand "scarey" PG-13 movies. Just make em R already.

I haven't seen Chronicle yet, but I still want to. I did see Woman in Black, and I didn't think it was that good. Maybe a 5 or 6 out of 10. The problem is the movie is sooooooo slow to build up, and there's so little tension until the last 20 minutes or so.

I'll put some of these details in spoiler tags, but they aren't that much of a spoiler:
The biggest thing about these horror/suspense films is typically when people die. Usually the killer lingers around his upcoming victim enough for you to know he/she is going to get it next, but typically these movies don't make it easy on you. They like to tease you with a lot of suspenseful situations until the gruesome act occurs.

This movie doesn't really have that at all. Anyone that dies is very sudden and it's honestly not much of a surprise or a shock. There's little to no emotional investment in the characters that die, so ultimately, you don't really care what happens to them.

Ultimately, Woman in Black is more of a suspense/mystery movie than a suspense/horror movie.

Thanks.........I'm definitely leaning toward Chronicle as a guy probably would anyway. Hopefully the DW is cool with that. If not, I could always have her clean the bathrooms again, no?

(headslap doh!)

Oh and cool "spoiler tags". New to me. If they've been out a while, that's the first I've seen of 'em.
