I connect to the internet using a wired connection. My computer doesn't have a wireless card. My router, however, is wireless capable.

To setup or use Chromecast do I need to have my computer be connected wirelessly?

I ask because it's unclear from the Chromecast website and I don't need to have a wireless card in my computer for Roku.

Thanks

Nope, your computer does not need a wireless adapter. As long as everything can connect to your home network, by whatever means, it should work. However, you will need the wireless router configured so the Chromecast can talk to the computer, and if you want to use a phone/tablet to control it.

Well, the Chromecast arrived and it wouldn't work from two different wired computers. It worked fine from the wireless one.

Were you giving me info you found on the web, or did you actually get it to work from a wired connection.

Edit: I am talking about setting it up, not using it once set up.

No personal experience, but I was looking at getting a Chromecast myself and did some research. The AnandTech article here does talk about the setup, and since it uses a pseudo-wireless network for setup, it does seem to need some sort of wireless device to use as a setup point. But it seems after that, any computer on the network (e.g. a chrome browser on a wired connection) should push content. How's it working so far?

The online information turns out to often be wrong and the Google info is very limited also.

Here's my actual experience:

Five calls to Chromecast support gave me 2 that I need a wireless device to setup and 3 I don't. My actual experience is Yes, YOU DO NEED A WIRELESS DEVICE TO SET UP YOUR CHROMECAST. YES, ONCE IT'S SETUP YOU CAN CONTROL IT FROM A COMPUTER WIRED TO YOUR NETWORK USING AN ETHERNET CABLE.

It is strikingly easy to set up.

The only issue I had after setup is that the Chromecasts overscan moves the control bar at the bottom halfway out of vision on my tv. I can easily remedy that because my tv lets me move the picture up enough to see the bar. If you have a wireless keyboard in front of you it's easy to just press the escape key to get out of full screen and that brings back the full control bar.

Another thing the internet is often wrong on is that you can use Chromecast to play videos stored on your computer. Just press Ctrl-o, that's the letter o, and a navigation box comes up to let you navigate to the videos on your computer.
