So here's the situation: I live in an old-ass three-story house, on the middle floor, and my landlord lives above me. Provides wifi for free through Verizon FIOS. All-around nice guy, but he's not super tech-savvy and I've already bugged him occasionally about router/wifi issues. Router (actiontec, according to portmapper) is located in his uniton the top floor.
Bought a chromecast a month ago, but the network can't/won't let it talk to my tablet. I thought it was UPnP at first, but he says that's enabled. Various additional googling has informed me most likely I need to disable the IGMP Proxy. Can I do that without bugging him via a third-party program? I don't have the router admin/pword, and I don't want to put him in the uncomfortable spot of telling me no (I realize this sounds lame, but I've only lived here 6 months, am leaving in 6 months, and I'd rather wait on getting the chromecast to work than have him annoyed or thinking I want to fuck with his network). I also don't want to open any of us up to security issues though (obviously I'm no network whiz. portmapper is really even a little out of my range if I'm being completely honest).
Anyone else having this or other issues with chromecast and in a similar situation as me that they've resolved?
Thanks a bunch. Really hope to get this working.
EDIT: Here is the thread which leads me to believe disabling the IGMP Proxy will fix the issue. Feel free to correct me if I'm coming to incorrect conclusions: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-I...and-wireless-network-on-actiontec/td-p/461359
