Chromebook or New Tablet?

I have been reading up on the new chromebooks and how they now (or VERY soon) will be able to run Android apps. Cost wise, they are LESS than a lot of tablets out there but seem like they will offer MUCH more...

SO - new chromebook or new tablet?

Do you read in bed? Tablet.
Do you type? Chromebook.
Do you already have a laptop? Tablet.

It's just the form factor you're comfortable with. Wouldn't be out of line to have both, either.

FWIW, I know a few people whose chromebooks are their only computing device.

I have a Nexus 7 and it is great. Got a nice cover with an integrated, blue tooth keyboard, but it won't flip all the way around if I just want to use it as a tablet (say at the gym to watch Netflix).

Do the chromebooks have an app that simulates OFFICE for Word, Excel, or Powerpoint? Will it only open such documents or can it create such documents as well?

*EDIT - I guess the OFFICE SUITE app can do that!

Yeah, Google Docs/Drive. Not as feature-rich as Word/Office, but it'll get the job done for most people.

If you're in no rush, just wait for a detachable 2-in-1 tablet-laptop that runs Chrome to come out. Then you'll have both!

Chromebook, then throw Linux on it 🙂 I would get one that has a Celeron 3805U or even an i3 though; the N-series Celerons and Pentiums are Atoms.

Definitely gonna get one as my "mobile/tablet replacement." Just gonna wait until the ones that can run Android apps come out, supposedly this month...

If Office is the primary use, a cheapo x86, Win 10 2-in-1 isn't too terrible. While they're Atoms, they're plenty quick for this type of work.

The Chromebook Flip (the first one that gets the capability to run Android apps) does run Microsoft Word and Excel (from Google Play Store) like a champ.

This fall Play Store will be officially supported on selected Chromebook (somebody pasted a list above). If you don't have one and can wait, I'll wait for the next gen of Chromebook which supports Play Store out of the box, and you're golden.
